Our mission to donate to the building of a Habitat for Humanity home began on Sunday, October 10, 2010. For each Sunday thereafter we sent one volunteer to team up with other local congregations and the homeowner in the building of a home at 511 Harper Rd., Atlanta. We worked side by side with people of various faiths in framing the home, building walls, shingling the roof and painting. I think we all can agree that it was a wonderful rewarding experience to work for such a worthwhile cause and to get the opportunity to know people that we may not typically relate to. Some of us even learned new skills that we can use in the future.
On November 21st at 1pm, the dedication ceremony will be held and home turned over to the homeowner, Chelsiea Brown. The homeowner will be given a memento from each participating congregation while each congregation will be given a plaque representing their contribution. To play a part in helping a deserving family to realize the American dream of owning their own home is gratifying.
As we come to the end of our involvement with the Habitat for Humanity interfaith build at 511 Harper Rd., Atlanta, I would like to thank the following volunteers for their time, talents and effort:
Tom Grace, Sarah Elam-Martin, JoAnne Frith, Phillip Straw, Bob Dinwiddie and Norma Lyons.
Thanks
June Pleasant
