G

Sisters and brothers,

I am sure that there are a million questions running through your mind as you read this:

Where is God calling the Memorial Drive Presbyterian Church?  What role will I play in this exciting time of renewal?  Who is this new pastor George and will I like his sermons?  I heard he was going to be joining the choir; is he a tenor, bass, or mezzo-soprano?  Can he even sing?  From the big picture to the smallest details, we all have questions and we are all seeking answers.

In this week's lectionary reading from Haggai the prophet asks the people what they remember of their former glory.   But Haggai doesn't wait for an answer from them about the past; instead he reveals to the people God's assurances for their future.

I will shake the heavens and the earth and the sea and the dry land; and I will shake all the nations, so that the treasure of all nations shall come, and I will fill this house with splendor, says the LORD of hosts.            Haggai 2:6-7

As we journey together in faith many of the answers we seek will be revealed; others will remain known only to God.  What we need to remember is that we don't need to have all the answers. What we need is the courage to love God and each other with all of our heart, mind, and soul, and to step out in faith in the sure knowledge that God has plans to fill Memorial Drive with a splendor beyond our wildest imagination.

Peace of Christ always,

George
