As you consider your financial pledge to MDPC, I hope you will prayerfully think of giving (1) proportionately, (2) systematically, and (3) sacrificially. Giving proportionately means that those who have much will give more, and those who have little will give less, but hopefully every member of MDPC will pledge. Giving systematically means that you give regularly. You will find it spiritually rewarding to contribute every week or month. It will remind you of how God's gracious care is not a "one time" event. Giving sacrificially means that you give enough to notice what you give. You may buy a cup of coffee and not really notice the difference that purchase makes in the contents of your wallet. Does what you give to the church make any difference in your bank balance. Remember that God sacrificed God's Son for our sake; are we willing to sacrifice to return a portion of our abundance to God? This Sunday, October 17, the sermon will be based on the story of Zacchaeus, found in Luke 19:1-10. I invite you to read this text and think about what it says to you and to the MDPC congregation. I hope to see you Sunday! Mary Jane |

Announcement

We need adults who will volunteer at least once every couple of months to serve as "crowd control" in our growing Sunday School class for children in the age group 5-12 years. We also welcome church members who will join the teaching rotation. Our curriculum is activity-driven and invites parent-involvement during the week following the lesson. Please contact Fritha Dinwiddie frithad@bellsouth.net for further information.

October 2, 2010 Presbytery Meeting Highlights
The Presbytery gathered on a beautiful sunny day at Agnes Scott College this past Saturday, experiencing the warm hospitality of our Presbyterian College. The meeting held much...and here are the highlights:
· The strategic plan that was "commissioned" by the presbytery last December, was presented to the body. Two amendments were added to the plan before its approval: (1) That the Coordinating Council was to encourage peace, justice, compassion and peacemaking, and (2) The committees not considered constitutional committees as named in the report would have until February 2011 to form partnerships and be recognized by Council. The plan as approved will be available on the website by the end of the week
· Campus Ministry in Georgia was lifted in celebration. Rev. Jill Tolbert, campus pastor at Emory University preached the sermon. The offering of over $2000 was received to benefit Campus Ministry
· The youth were busy this summer as the Presbytery enjoyed a slide shop presentation of their mission trip to Puerto Rico and their time at Purdue University as part of Youth Triennium
· Jack Westlund's retirement was celebrated
· The presbytery received four new pastors: Beth Waltemath and David Lewicki (co-pastors at North Decatur), George Tatro pastor of Memorial Drive, and Pam Driesell, head of staff of Trinity in Atlanta
· Bart Smith was welcomed as a candidate for the Ministry of Word and Sacrament
· The policy for validated ministers was approved with amendment
· 2011 amount of per capita was approved at $565,600 or $21.31 per member
The next meeting of Presbytery will be on November 30 at St. Luke's Church in Dunwoody.
