The Lectionary Gospel lesson for Sunday, August 8, is Luke 12:32-40. In studying this text, I realized that one must consider the context set in the previous verses: Luke 12:22-31. I realized these prior verses are not in the lectionary in any year. I have never preached on Jesus' words, Do not worry about your life.... Consider the birds of the air... the lilies of the field." This week I invite you to contemplate Luke 12:22-38, and please pray for me - a consummate worrier! - as I seek to discern what God's Spirit is saying to us. I hope to see you Sunday.

Highlights of the July 22, 2010 Stated meeting of Presbytery It was a warm, beautiful sunshiny day at Calvin Center when the Presbytery gathered for worship and celebration. We were greeted warmly by the Calvin Center staff. Here are some highlights:
· Our meeting held a new format with worship and liturgy woven throughout the meeting.
· We had simultaneous translation in Korean and Spanish.
· We sang camp songs in the spirit of Calvin's 50th anniversary as well as welcoming back former directors of Calvin, and hearing about the many programs the Center offers.
· Joe Evans preached a sermon entitled "I Will Lift Up My Eyes".
· The offering went to benefit the Camp Calvin Scholarship Fund for Summer Campers.
· The Dallas Presbyterian Church has been re-named the Dallas-Dodd Presbyterian Church at the congregations' request.
· We welcomed three new pastors: Caitlyn Phillips, Corey Ingold and Mary Jane Gardner.
· We welcomed a new candidate: Evan Carter.
· The new Strategic Plan was highlighted by Mark Roberson sharing the process with the Presbytery and the hope that the full plan will be voted on at the October meeting of Presbytery.
· We celebrated the ministry of Midway Church at this time of its dissolution.
· Coordinating Council reported its endorsement of The New Church Development Commission's new vision statement.
· We celebrated the Honorable Retirement of Rev. Dr. Lloyd Green. The next meeting of Presbytery will be October 2, 2010 at Agnes Scott College beginning at 9:30 AM.
