Mary Jane's Thought

One of the things we've learned from the videos at the Wednesday night study is the need to be more intentional about sharing how God is at work in our lives.  Many of us life-long Presbyterians do not have much practice doing this!  This week I invite you to pay attention to what is happening in your life, and recognize how God is at work through these events.  Then on Sunday share with someone how you experienced God's presence in your life this week.
Hope to see you Sunday!

SUMMER SALAD/SANDWICH STUDY

Wednesday, July 21, 6:30-8:15 PM, is the ninth of our 10-week study based on Reggie McNeal's book and video, The Present Future:  Six Tough Questions for the Church.   We begin at 6:30 PM with a potluck "sandwich and salad" supper.  (Bring a salad or some sandwiches to share.)  Each week we watch a video presenting the tough questions that churches face in our changing culture, followed by a time of discussion about how MDPC can address these questions.

This week we will discuss "New Reality Number 6 - The Rise of Apostolic Leadership." The "wrong question" is How do we train leaders for church work?  The "tough question" is How do we train leaders for the Christian movement?  In this session we will discuss distinctive characteristics of apostolic leaders, such as: ordering their lives around a missionary purpose; believing they are responsible for fulfilling the Great Commission; being visionary and entrepreneurial, and working in teams, not as Lone Rangers.

EVENTS

PRAYER GROUP

The prayer group will be meeting on THURSDAYS in the Youth Room at 5 PM during the month of July.  We will be gathering to fellowship and to pray for the concerns and celebrations announced on Sunday and other requests that come to our attention. YOUNG LEADERS WORSHIP SERVICE AUGUST 15TH

Come and see how the Lord is speaking to us through the gifts of the younger members as they lead us in worship August 15th.  Hear through musical gifts and various readings.  See through a dramatization of God's movement in our everyday lives.  Delight as you experience the Lord in new ways.

CHURCH PICNIC AT STONE MOUNTAIN PARK

Please join us for a church picnic (potluck) on August 15th at Stone Mountain Park!  We will be carpooling to a reserved pavilion in the park after church (car passes have been provided).  Please bring your favorite family dish appropriate for a picnic to church that morning.  If your food needs refrigeration please provide your own cooler, if possible; limited space is available in the church refrigerator.  However, someone will be available to put it in a refrigerator, if necessary.  We hope you can join us for a time of food, fun, and fellowship! Katie
