E-News From
Memorial Drive Presbyterian Church

As we anticipate celebrating the 4th of July, please join me in praying this prayer for our nation (from the Presbyterian Book of Common Worship):

Almighty God, you have given us this good land as our heritage.  Make us always remember your generosity and constantly do your will.  Bless our land with honest industry, sound learning, and an honorable way of life.  Save us from violence, discord, and confusion; from pride and arrogance, and from every evil way.  Make us who come from many nations with many different languages a united people.  Defend our liberties and give those whom we have entrusted with the authority of government
the spirit of wisdom, that there might be justice and peace in our land.  When times are prosperous, let our hearts be thankful; and, in troubled times, do not let our trust in you fail. We ask all this through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Summer Salad/Sandwich Study

Wednesday, June 30, 6:30-8:15 PM, is the sixth of our 10-week study based on Reggie McNeal's book and video, The Present Future:  Six Tough Questions for the Church.   We begin at 6:30 PM with a potluck "sandwich and salad" supper.  (Bring a salad or some sandwiches to share.)  Each week we watch a video presenting the tough questions that churches face in our changing culture, followed by a time of discussion about how MDPC can address these questions.

This week we will discuss "New Reality Number 3 - A New Reformation: Releasing God's People."    In preparation for this week, look for evidence that God is at work in the world beyond the church.  Think about how MPDC is serving the community.

Vacation Bible School

Do you want to know where in the world are you? Do you want help deciding where to go next, and do you want to get directions to get there and set out on the journey?  Then make plans to come to the annual Vacation Bible School which will be about maturing in our faith as we mature in age.  Dates are: Sunday, Monday and Tuesday August 1, 2 and 3 starting each evening with supper and ending with an ice cream treat at 8:15 p.m.  This year, Mrs. Penny, the school chef with the help of her husband will provide us all 3 nights with a full hot dinner.  The cost will remain at $5 but reservations must be made.

For further information about Vacation Bible School, please contact Pastor Barry.

Schedule

The church office will be closed on Mondays, beginning on Monday, July 5, through Labor Day, September 6.  The church staff will work from their homes.  If you need to get in touch with anyone on the staff, please leave a message on that person's voice mail. It will be forwarded immediately so that your call will be returned promptly.  Closing the Donnell Building on Mondays will conserve energy and hopefully result in some utility cost-savings. Please contact Mary Jane Cornell if you have questions.

Mary Jane Cornell will be out of town July 2-4.  If you need a pastor, please contact Pastor Barry or Katie Archibald-Woodward.  To reach Mary Jane, leave a message on her church voicemail and it will be forwarded to her.
