Mary Jane's Thought For The Week
School is out for the summer! This is the season when many folks take a vacation. While God never takes a vacation, God does rest! In the creation story we read that on the seventh day God finished the work that he had done, and he rested on the seventh day from all the work that he had done. So God blessed the seventh day and hallowed it, because on it God rested from all the work that he had done in creation. (Genesis 2:2-3). We all need Sabbath time - not necessarily time to play, but time to rest and reflect. Take some time every day this week to rest, reflect and pray. |
Summer Salad/Sandwich Study Beginning Wednesday, May 26, 6:30-8:15 PM, Pastor Mary Jane Cornell will lead a 10-week study based on Reggie McNeal's book and video, The Present Future: Six Tough Questions for the Church. Memorial Drive Presbyterian is not alone in facing the challenge of declining church membership. While there is an increasing interest in spiritual issues in our country, there is a decline in participation in organized churches. How do we meet this challenge? That will be the question that we will explore during this summer study. We will begin at 6:30 PM with a potluck "sandwich and salad" supper. (Everyone will be asked to bring a salad or some sandwiches to share.) During supper we will watch a video presenting the tough questions that churches face in our changing culture. This will be followed by a time of discussion about how MDPC can address these questions. |
