Message From Mary Jane

If you are anything like me, you know sometimes it is easy to forget - and hard to remember!  One thing that I hope you will remember is to give your financial gifts to MDPC on a regular basis.  Bills for utilities come every month, the church staff depends on salaries, and sometimes there are unexpected expenses for repairs or special mission projects.  If income is not consistent, it can be difficult to keep our bank balance from going in the red!

I have solved the problem of remembering to write my church check! Since I pay most of my bills on-line through my bank, I have set up my account so that a check will automatically be sent to the church on a specific date each month.  (You can also set it up for weekly payments!).  This not only solves the problem of remembering each month, but also helps when I am on vacation.  If you use on-line banking you may want to consider this easy way to be sure your pledge is current.  Thanks!

Bible Study

The Revelation to John is one of the strangest - and most misunderstood - books in the Bible.  Pastor Mary Jane Cornell is leading a study on the Book of Revelation on Wednesday evenings during Lent.  To prepare for this week's study, read Revelation 2:1 - 3:22 (the letters to the 7 churches).  Think about what a letter to Memorial Drive Presbyterian Church might say!  We begin with soup at 6:00 PM; the Bible study is 6:30-7:30 PM.

Computer Class

A class for those interested in learning about keeping in touch with family and friends through email will be held on Tuesday, February 23 at 10 am in Room D101 of the Donnell Building.  The class will be taught by Pastor Barry.  Come have fun learning and sharing; all computer skill-levels are welcome!

PW Circle 1 will meet on Thursday, February 25 at Longhorns in Tucker at 6:30 pm.

My Dear Friends:

Please accept this invitation to attend The Maria Fearing Day Celebration on Saturday, February 27, 2010, from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Radcliffe Presbyterian Church, 286 Hamilton E. Holmes Drive, NW, Atlanta, GA 30318.

As you may already know, Maria Fearing was born into slavery in 1838 on a plantation in Gainesville, Alabama. At the age of 56, Maria wanted to serve the Southern Presbyterian Church as a missionary to the Congo. However, because of her advanced age, the Church refused to approve Maria's request to become a missionary to Africa. Determined to serve God's people, she then sold her home and obtained a small gift from her church and went to Africa anyway. Later, because of her good work and perseverance, the Church endorsed Maria and made the commitment to financially support her work. Please come and enjoy the music, food and fellowship as we share information about this phenomenal woman.

The Maria Fearing Fund and the Metro Atlanta African American/Black Presbyterian Caucus jointly sponsor this event.

Sincerely,

Dave Wallace

President
