Greetings!

In this and the previous issue of the Recruiting Tactics & Strategy Report we discuss the subject of Coaching Skills and how fundamental they are to your recruiting success.  You are a Coach whether you realize it or not.  You coach your employees if you have them, and you also coach your clients and candidates.

Note: These are not just 'Tips'.
I don't do 'Tips'. These are real tactics and strategies that are designed to help you build real recruiting power.

In last week's report:
  • Tactic  - Successfully Coaching Others (clients, candidates, employees, etc.)
  • An Intro to Bob Marshall

  • Why you absolutely DO need a coach - everyone does, even the greatest athletes in the world!

Strategy - What You Need From Your Own Coach (and Why You Absolutely DO Need One!)

Do you?  Do you really need your own personal coach?  Consider the great athletes, the great performers in all fields.  I don't know if every single one of them invests into coaches, but I'm certain its far closer to all than to none, if you follow me.

Even Tiger "I am deeply sorry" Woods, the greatest juggler... I mean golfer... in the world gets the best coaching available.  But if he's the best in the world, why does he need a coach?  Because, truthfully, everyone does.

Forgetting about what "all the great ones" do, why do you need your own personal coach?  The best way to answer that is to focus on what you should bring to your own coaching encounters.  Here's the critical list, the big three mandates: Fear, Ambition & Humility.  Let me flesh those out just a bit:

1. Honest, even Wise Fear
2. Burning, White-Hot Ambition (Passion and Fire and Burning Desire)?
3. Humility, Readiness to be Goaded, Inspired, Led, Taught, Instructed, Observed, Reinforced, Cheered On, Corrected and Guided

Butch Harmon and TigerWe need our fears, because without them, there is simply no readiness for change.  Why do coaches so obsess about change?  Most people simply never embrace it, and therefore, they never find, grow or release their inner giants of performance.  Your fear might be over the bland, gray, same-old, same-old; or, your fear may be over the worst possible outcomes and nightmares and living hell on earth.  But, if you can access no fear, then you're really not ready for a coach.

The right way to say that is this.  Find your fear.  Whatever it takes, find it and pull it up.  Your fear is your friend, not your enemy.

Along with "Ambition" lets throw the world "Glory" into the mix.  You may think you're no glory hound, and if not, that's okay.  But, at some point in your career as a recruiter, you've got to go for the gusto.  You really do have to find and unleash your inner giant.  The recruiting practice is one that has little glory on a day-to-day basis, but one that offers the hope of extraordinary glory if you get it right, in the end.  That glorious pot of gold at the rainbow's end is also your friend.  A coach will need you to access your greatest dreams and deepest passions to overcome all obstacles in your way.

Now, when it comes to humility, don't get me wrong. The best coaches thrive on your resistance, your argument, your challenges and questions.  We have to.  If we can't take the heat, we can't survive as coaches, pure and simple.  But, there's a difference between honest resistance and ego poisoning.  No, you should not check your ego at the door when you work with your coach, not at all. But, you do have to turn that ego power down a notch or two.  There has to be a certain humility that you bring to your coaching encounter.  Be ready to learn, be ready to change, be ready to be held to account and be ready to let down your guard just a bit, so you can, as we love to command, "help me help you!"

What about whether or not you should have your own coach at all?  The answer is simply this:

No matter how wise or motivationally strong your fear may be, sharing it with a qualified coach will improve its quality and benefit to you.

Your ambition can never have too much support or fuel, and no one can help you build your ambition more than the right coach.

And, where humility is really always a good thing, there is no relationship in the world where your readiness to learn, grow and transform will be made more profitable than in the successful coaching encounter.

Let me put it this way.  Your coach will help you use your fear, grow and live up to your ambition, and make your learning and change process more powerful and better than you ever can all by yourself.

The truth is this. There is simply no way to overstate the case.  Your greatness demands that you open your mind, heart and soul to the aid that the right coach can give you.  Do not stop until you have found, hired, tested, confirmed or replaced and settled into the right coaching relationship.  You'll find this to be one of the best decisions you make in your entire life.

You know you need a Coach, but who should you work with?  You can't know for sure who will best serve your needs, who will most support your greatness, and who will give you the greatest return on investment until you've done some research and tested your options.

Next week offers you one of the best possible opportunities to find the right coach for you (there are 12!) and receive a ton of fantastic guidance (15 hours to be exact!) on how to run, manage and grow a highly successful search firm...

It's a "virtual" summit, so you can call in, listen from your computer, or you can have them send you audio files of every single session.

The Dragon Boys

The Summit goes from March 8th to the 12th and my session on Wednesday, March 10th, is called:

From Fear to Confidence: Defeating Your Worst Enemy, Empowering Your Best Friend (they're both YOU!), and the Story of "The Dragon Boys"
.

Here's the summary:

St. GeorgeFrom inaccessible prospects and customers to seemingly dead markets, from unpredictable candidates to impossible search assignments, recruiting can make you feel bone-chilling, heart-stopping fear.  The scariest and most difficult things recruiters face can be called "Dragons".  Confidence comes from knowing how to face your Dragons and slay them.

But, the worst enemy you face is never external conditions.  Rather, your worst enemy is always yourself, in those moments where fear dictates your actions, preventing your true powers and abilities from rising.  Fortunately, your best friend is also always yourself, since no other soul can determine your reaction to the conditions you face.

In this session you'll learn how to access your many victories from the past and apply them to current conditions, knowing that you can and will slay all the Dragons that cross your recruiting path.  Using the powerful, memorable and revealing story of "The Dragon Boys" as a metaphor, you will learn a tremendous amount about yourself and how you function under threat.  You will learn how to overcome your fears, defeat your worst challenges and slay your Dragons.

I hope you'll be in my session, or if you can't make it, that you'll have them send you an audio recording.  If you do decide to sign up for this fantastic opportunity to hear from me and 11 other Coaches, not only can you use the discount code below for 10%, I'll also give you a FREE one-hour personal coaching session!
