So how'd it go?
What sort of year was 2010?
I'd really like to hear your story! Was it a great year,
middling, or not so good? What was the worst moment, and then, what
happened next? What unforeseen challenges arose, especially those that
made you think you'd just not make it? How did you defeat the
giants and monsters that attacked? And, what did you do that makes you so
proud you just glow thinking about it?
What happened in 2010 that you'll remember forever?
Oh, and I'd love to see some pictures too! What trips did you
take? What material items, cars and houses and such, did you fight for
and win? Who did you love and how did you spend time with them?
I'd truly love to know the whole story, from work to home, from health to
transformation.
What was 2010 like?
"Wait... 2010? What the heck is he talking about?"No... I didn't hit my head or fall off the wagon. And I'm not even mistakenly talking about 2009.
I
want to know what your memories of 2010 are,
BEFORE 2010 even gets started! I want you to imagine and to remember, these require the exact same muscles in your
mind. So, how was it? Was 2010 the greatest year of your life?
Introducing: Future Perfect PlanningIn the last report, I told you I'd send you two proven tools
that will help you double your placements in 2010. This is the first. I call it Future Perfect Planning.
Of all the planning tools you've been introduced to, there
are none that can match Future Perfect Planning in reach and power, and none
that have been more thoroughly tested and proven in the world of top recruiting
performance.
(It's tempting to talk about my influences in developing this tool. I will,
but only briefly. The two books that have to be mentioned are
The Living Company, by
Arie de Geus and
Future Perfect, by Stan Davis. I didn't invent the grammatical concept of future perfect, but I have championed the formal method of Future Perfect Planning that I named and developed since 1997.)
The Most Powerful Way to Plan Ahead
When people think about planning, they think about what they should
do, or what they want to do. Most people have no idea, though, how
decisions about the future, and the performance that will generate those
outcomes really work.
Future Perfect Planning taps into the reality of
the way the human mind and heart work in making decisions, and sheds light on
the most powerful way to plan ahead as a result.
In fact, a decision is actually a
memory of a future outcome that
you set in your imagination, and then commit to, working backwards if you will,
in executing the actions required for the outcome you've pictured.
That's what Future Perfect Planning calls for.
You have to see your
outcomes completed, first, and then, second, work backwards in your mind to
cover those actions you know you'll need to accomplish in order to win
your desired outcome.
"Next Saturday night, we're sending you back to the future!" -Dr. Emmett Brown
The two parts that matter the most are these:
1) Step
forward to a moment in time after the planning period you're working on
is over. So, in our example above, we step forward in time to January of
2011, and look back on what we accomplished in 2010.
2) Now, work your way through the hurdles and obstacles that might prevent you from
success, while noting all the things you know you have to do if success is even
to have a chance at all.
We can call these two parts your Future Perfect
Vision, and Working Backwards from the Future to the Present.
Here's an example of a Future Perfect Vision:
In 2010, I
doubled the number of placements I made in 2009. In order to do
so I overcame the most basic hurdles I've ever tackled. I learned
how to maximize my results on minimum efforts, but also to invest all
the hard work I needed to in order to double my 2009 placements.
I have never been so consistent before in my daily discipline.
I mastered the art of finding the best talent, and winning the
clients who needed them. I found the keys to introducing people
and setting up interviews, and I set up more interviews than I ever had
before. Actually, I hit 60% more interviews and that alone was
the biggest key to doubling my 2009 billings. And, I really
mastered the entire flow of the process, too. I
struggled some in the first quarter, throwing off the tough-times
mentality from 2009. But, by the second quarter I started getting
new highs in my connect time, more recruits, more job orders and really
nailing my introductions each week. 2nd quarter showed
my rising deals, too, but the flood gates started to open in 3rd
quarter, and then, not only did I nail the 4th quarter in
2010, December was the best month of my entire career, with 6
placements all closing down just before my Christmas break.
Now, replace the desired outcome above with yours, and identify the challenges and obstacles you
will have overcome in order to make it happen.
So, what did you accomplish in 2010?If you'd like to schedule a free 1-hour 'no-strings-attached' conversation
