Twenty years and still growing! The Southern SAWG conference is for serious organic and sustainable farmers or those interested in creating more vibrant community food systems. The event offers informative pre-conference courses and field trips, eight tracks of practical conference sessions, network gatherings, trade show, Taste of Tennessee dinner and more. Plus, this being our 20th anniversary, we’ll be in a celebratory mood.

Over 90% of past attendees reported they learned things they would use immediately and even higher numbers say meeting so many folks doing so many great things around the South is a key benefit of this popular conference.

Short Courses
Our popular 1½ day pre-conference short courses are intensive learning experiences that provide comprehensive information on whole farming enterprises. With the in-class presentations and the extensive take-home materials, they give you the knowledge you most need to be successful with your enterprise. Mini Courses
Our ½ day pre-conference mini courses provide in-depth information on narrower topics than the whole farming systems covered with short courses, but cover specific topics in greater depth than is possible in our regular conference sessions. Field Trips
For those who learn best by getting out in the field, we offer three excellent field trips this year. Our ½ day pre-conference field trips are geared toward organic and sustainable production and marketing of horticultural crops and livestock and community food initiatives. Each year conference participants tell us the great line-up of presenters with their practical experience is what makes our conference program so valuable. Educational Sessions
The general conference, running all day Friday and Saturday, offers 56, 1 ½-hour sessions on a broad range of topics for start-up and seasoned producers alike. Sessions include; sustainable and organic production and marketing information for commercial horticultural and livestock producers, enterprise management lessons, farm policy education and community food systems development information. If you are actively working with limited-resource and under-served farmers, you may be eligible to apply to participate in a special Southern SAWG project funded by the USDA Risk Management Agency. Six non-institutional organizations selected to participate in this new project, after committing to fulfilling all project roles, will be awarded 2011 conference registration and lodging for one coordinator and seven farmers, plus additional free resource materials.
