It's Time to Consider

What is your

Insurance IQ?

A survey  conducted  by MetLife Auto & HomeŽ found that many consumers are unaware of what  their in- surance policies actually cover, leaving them unnec- essarily exposed to financial risk.

As  time  goes   by,  most  of us accumulate  things of value,  the rewards  for working hard.  However, often many  people allow gaps  in  their insurance coverage to develop by forgetting to take a look at whether their insurance coverage is sufficient for their current situation.

Consider whether it is time to  take an inventory of  your possessions  and consider the answers to the following questions:

  • Have you accumulated a lot of valuables?
  • How much will you need to repair or rebuild your home in case of disaster?
  • Would your house pass current  building codes  standards if rebuilding were necessary?
  • What are your liabilities?
  • Are your deductibles realistic?

A package policy is an ideal solution  for  more complex insurance needs. These policies have the ease and convenience of one bill, one renewal  date  and  in some cases, one deductible.  A package  policy  can also provide  the  insured with comprehensive insurance protection and higher coverage limits than a standard  policy.  The end results are greater peace of mind and better and realistic coverage.   To learn more about home and  auto insurance contact your  Financial Advisor,  Melissa Stein.

IPO

Initial Public Offering   (1602 - 2012 )

An IPO is the first offering of a firm's' stock (shares) on the stock market, at the time it "goes public" and is open to all buyers. Because a stock market usually values the stock on the expectations of the firm's future growth and income, IPOs are typi- cally an opportunity for the founders and other early investors to make high profits  by   cashing  their stock holdings.

IPOs are a 409-year-old ritual. In 1602 the Dutch East India Co. had the first IPO.

Sovereign Risk

Probability that the govern- ment of a country (or an agency backed by the government) will refuse to comply with the terms of a loan agreement during economically difficult or politically volatile times. Although sovereign nations don't "go broke," they can assert their independence in any manner they choose, and cannot be sued without their assent. Sovereign risk was a significant factor during 1970s after the oil shock when Argentina and Mexico almost defaulted on their loans which had to be rescheduled.

TED Spread

Treasuries Over Euro Dollar Spread.

Wall Street  term  for the gap between  interest  rates (yields) on US government securities (treasury bills) and the dollars-deposits  held outside of  the   US (eurodollars). The futures con- tracts based on TED Spread are actively traded on the futures markets by speculator who bet on  the narrowing   or  widening of the gap.  It   is   also   used as  an indicator of investor confidence in the US federal government's finances and the US  financial  system:  a  narrow spread indicates high confidence  and  a  wide spread  reflects diminished confidence.

Greetings!

James Russell Lowell (American Poet, Essayist 1819-1891)  said it best, " What is so rare as a day in June?  Then, if ever, come perfect days."  That is what I wish for you for this lovely month: some perfect days with family and friends.

June is the month of Father's Day celebration in the United Sates. In Australia and New Zealand, Father's day is celebrated on the first Sunday in September.  In Belgium and Spain the day is observed on the 19th of March. Be cosmopolitan and celebrate it not only in June, but a second time this coming September and surprise the fathers in your family!

Please  feel  free  to contact  me any  "perfect day in June" if you have questions or concerns.

Until next time,

Very Truly Yours,

Melissa

Protecting Yourself While Shopping Online

What steps should you take?

Provided by Melissa Stein

Whether you shop online routinely or infrequently, the risk of identity theft rises as you offer more and more information about yourself online.

Don't use a debit card, and use only one credit card. If your debit card gets hacked, the thieves may be able to access your bank account. But if you use just one credit card for online shopping, you'll just have one card to cancel if your card number is compromised. (It would also be wise to keep a low credit limit on that particular card.)

Look for the "https://" before you enter personal information. When you see that (look for the "s"), it should indicate that you are transmitting data within a secure site. Depending on your browser, you may also see a padlock symbol at the bottom of the browser window.

Watch what you click - and watch out for fake sites. Pop-ups, attachments from mysterious sources, dubious links - don't be tempted to explore where they lead. Hackers have created all manner of "phishing" sites and online surveys - seemingly legitimate, but set up to siphon your information. It is better to be skeptical.

Protect your PC. When did you install the security and firewall programs on your computer? Have you updated them recently?

Change stored passwords frequently - and make them really obscure. It is a good idea to change or update your passwords once in a while. Mix letters and numbers, and use an uppercase letter if possible. And never use "password" as your password!

Don't shop using an unsecured wi-fi connection. You are really leaving yourself open to identity theft when shop using public wi-fi. Put away the laptop and wait until you leave that coffee shop or airport terminal. Yes, hackers can tap into your Smartphone via the same tactics by which they can invade your PC.
