Westlake School for the Performing Arts Newsletter | Spring Issue March 4, 2011 | |
Greetings!
How I wish for warmer days to come. Rain or shine, we are ready to rock this month and take on the stage by storm. YAGP participants spent this last week-end competing and participating in workshops. The results are listed below. March is a busy month for all our talented hardworking students. Check out the following competitions and performances our students are gearing up for. Come and support by attending one of their performances or by donating to YPI to help support their endeavors.
March 4-6 - Musical Theater students to compete at the California State Talent Competition, San Jose
March 19 - The Top Hip Hop Companies from Southern and Northern California come together on the same stage at the Urban Paradise Hip Hop Showcase, San Mateo
March 25-27 - Tap and Lyrical Jazz students to compete in Showstoppers, San Mateo There are so many exciting things happening all at the same time for all WSPA students that I am in awe of the energy and caliber being set by every one of them. Likewise, I can hardly keep up nor attend every single event. I am so grateful to all the teachers who are taking the lead on providing these wonderful opportunities to the children. Our teachers and students are unstoppable when it comes to their passion in what they do. Bravo to all of you!!!! and a Big Thank You to Debbie Knutson, our office manager, who has kept us all organized and informed. A couple of reminders: The first day of Spring is Sunday, March 13. Make a note that daylight savings time begins on the 13th. If you have not done so, it's not too late to place your order for WSPA jerseys, jackets, shirts, and bags and represent with pride wherever you go. Live, laugh, and love with your child as she pursues her passion. Truly yours, Malu Rivera-Peoples, School Director |

NEW YORK CITY DANCE ALLIANCE AND SHOWSTOPPERS REGIONAL
Our Jazz Performance Program headed by Miss Megan Glynn are gearing up for their participation in the New York City Dance Alliance in Santa Clara. What's wonderful about this competition is the workshops being offered by top jazz teachers and choreographers from the dance industries of LA. Guest choreographers and teachers from national TV reality shows such as SYTYCD hold audition workshops and dance and college scholarships are awarded to deserving students. Our young group of jazz dancers will in no doubt enjoy the exciting weekend. Meanwhile, our tappers and lyrical jazz students will be at the Showstoppers Regional in San Mateo. We have first time soloists, duets, small groups, and large ensembles. We wish them all the luck and thank teachers Mrs. Amy and Ms. Tina for setting choreography and preparing the participants for this competition. |
2011 Yearbook Ads and Individual Photos
Individual Pictures Our resident photographer, Mr. Lem Abdon, will also be doing individuals for those who are interested in ordering solo pictures. Mr. Abdon will be providing an order envelope that offers several types of packages. Make sure to fill out one and insert your payment of cash or check on the day of the shoot.
Place a Business or Personal Ad in Yearbook 2011 Make this a wonderful piece of memorabilia for your child and send her a personalized message in the yearbook. Your personal and business ads have been the reason why an elaborate picture yearbook such as ours is possible. Needless to say, we invite and urge last year's advertisers, personal and business, to continue your support for the 2011 Yearbook. We also encourage and invite new advertisers. A separate photoshoot for your personal ad will be arranged.

MUSICAL THEATER SOLO VOCALISTS TO COMPETE AT THE CALIFORNIA STATE TALENT COMPETITION IN SAN JOSE and a recap of Songs from the Heart, a solo voice recital.
On a beautiful Sunday on February 13, some 40 solo vocalists took the spotlight at Henry's Restaurant and wowed friends and families by their rendition of their own songs from the heart.
They were all fantastic and amazing, with voices and facials that would easily fool one to believing this could not have been their first solo performance. A big thank you to Ms. Katie Kerwin for preparing them all and giving us the pleasure of watching them.
From this same group are soloists who will be competing at the California State Talent Competition on March 4-6 in San Jose.
They are:
Reggie DeGuzman
Anisa Henry
Anastasia Stout
Annaleigh Mar
Alyzza Marquez
Erin Friedman
Tanya Santos
Mackenzie Rohan
Annika Ponciano
Diana Dominic
Good luck to you all!!!
