2011 Recital Preparation - Students to be Measured for Costumes

debbiemeasurement
Debbie Knutson, Office Manager
"We will assume all the students in a routine class will be participating in the recital and therefore will be ordered a costume."
Our office manager, Debbie Knutson along with Brigette Guldbech and Stacey Reyes will be taking measurements for costumes on Monday, November 1 through Saturday, November 6 (Polynesian Classes will be measured in mid November).  They will make their rounds in every class to take measurements. Please bring your child to the office if she misses class that day.  They will be allowing room for growth in sizing the costumes, however, if you think your child has a high growth rate, please let them know so they can adjust the sizing accordingly.  A $50 down payment for each costume will be collected together with your November tuition. The balance of the payment may be paid after the holidays in January. Costumes will be ordered in mid-December.

We will assume all the students will be participating in the recital and therefore will be ordered a costume. You must let the office know before December if your child will not participate in the recital because of vacation plans. Keep in mind that costumes are not  refundable once ordered. Late orders are nearly impossible to receive by recital time and may cost you expensive shipping fees. A costume book showing a picture of your child's costume will be displayed in the office in January.

Nutcracker - "A Huge Production dependent on Parent Support"

ypi logoypi
HELP SELL THE HOUSE!
Dear Parents in the Performance Programs,

For a private school like ours, such a huge production in all its splendor is not possible without your help.  I am grateful for your help and participation in the cookie dough sale, the food sales, the carnival, the trips to Cache Creek, and the silent auction.  You can look forward to a succession of more fun activities being planned by the energetic crew of parents, headed by Regina de Guzman, mother of Reggie (Musical Theater Sr. company member) and Catherine (MT, Ballet Jr. Co. Member).

Last week, in an informal meeting with Regina and a small group of parents, an exciting array of fund raising social events such as a Christmas Lunch, Casino Bus Trips, Movie Day/Night, Bingo Night, Chevy's Night, and Daphne's Greek Cafe were presented to Gina Dahlen, president of YPI and myself.  In addition, plans for selling gift cards from Ben & Jerry's and possibly other sources of services and products are being considered.  I commend them for all their energy and I thanked this small group of parents for their agressive goal of raising at least $5,000.00.

The Nutcracker production involves approximately 211 hours of preparation, contracting 7 rehearsal teachers, to prepare 150 students.  With elaborate sets, a grand theater, and an increasing production cost, Nutcracker accrues a budget expense of over $47,000.00.  You can scroll below to see the actual budget.

I explained to the parents I met with, as I am explaining to you now, that the main source of income of every YPI production comes from the ticket sales. With the lack of funding generated from outside and the limited funds raised from among our families through our carnivals and food sales, it is imperative to sell at least 80% of the house to cover our expenses.
If every family in the production pushes to sell $250.00 worth of tickets (10 tickets) which includes what you purchase for your own family, it will generate an income of $35,500.00.  It is not a big feat for those who have big families and an extended social network.  At the same time, Elsa Lai (mother of Audrey, Jr member) positively expressed that these families can help those who have limited social connections.

The small group of parents that gathered at Chipotle volunteered their commitment to pushing ticket sales (at least 10 tickets each), and I strongly appeal to the 135 other families in Nutcracker to doing the same.

It is my hope that you will make every effort to sell the tickets at work, in your child's school, at your church, and in your clubs.  It is with pride that you can invite your friends, co-workers, church, organization, and other affiliations personal or business, to watch this quality production.
You can start by making a phone call, sending an email and an invite, or approaching the WSPA families in the courtyard who are new to the school and encourage them to take their 3 year old to watch the Nutcracker.

It is our dream that our success with this production will start the ball rolling for the success of Urban Paradise, the Year End Gala, and the financial ability to upgrade the microphones to suit the needs of our growing musical theater performance program.

Please help YPI sell every seat in the house.  We have flyers and posters in the office for you to give out.

My ongoing gratitude for all the support, time and money you've invested on your child.  I re-affirm WSPA's commitment in providing high quality training to the best of our ability and to make your child's Nutcracker experience a proud moment of her/his life.

carnivalCarnival Recap by Regina De Guzman

halloween

This carnival and silent auction would not have been possible without the help of the parents and teachers of WSPA.  The weekend was packed with fun and excitement for all.  On Friday we were faced with a dilemma; whether to cancel the carnival or not.  After much deliberation, we cancelled the carnival on Friday but came up with cleaver solutions to have the carnival on Saturday.  The banners were put up on Friday afternoon and the office was transformed into a festive display of an array of Silent Auction items.

Saturday morning started off with a surprise party for Ms. Tina.  Once the group of parent volunteers had their birthday breakfast, the set-up of the carnival began.  Parents took charge of their respective booths as Ms. Lilly maintained her composure as she directed all of the volunteers.  What was once a bare courtyard slowly transformed into a carnival fantasy for the young and old.

Parent volunteer, DJ Ricky Viray livened the setting with his wide array of music.  Children went from booth to booth taking a chance at winning some great prizes.  From fishing for pumpkins to a ring toss and ball rolling (don't know the name); the children took delight in what they saw.  As the noon hour rolled in, the food booth opened and provided nachos, porridge, lumpia and pansit, to name a few.  For those who wanted to be relieved of their body aches, parent volunteer, Joseph Gaudiano provided 10 minute massages.

At the end of the day, as parents swept the remnants of the carnival, I embraced what the volunteers and I were able to accomplish.  We managed to raise much-needed funds for the Nutcracker expenses.  We were able to bring forth a sense of community or family involvement as we worked together for the same cause.  Most importantly, we were able to provide a memorable carnival for the children.

HAUNTED HOUSE AND THE SPOOKY MUSICAL THEATER COMPANY - recap by Mrs. Katie Kerwin, Musical Theater Director

Our Musical Theatre Company members scared friends and families (and even the bravest Moms and Dads!) as they entered our Haunted House.  Guests were greeted by witches, werewolves, scarecrows, dolls, demons and creepy carnival folks!  Although we delight to fright, we did use the magic tambourine to magically freeze our ghouls and goblins so that the younger guests could enjoy a little spooky fun too without all the startling surprises!  Special thanks to Lily and Camille Edralin for helping coordinate the donations and decorations.  Also a big special thank you to all of the families of the MTC students who helped with ideas, donated decorations,  and set up and clean up!  We're already looking forward to next year with all new themes!!!!  Stay tuned.....
