Greetings!
Classes are settled in and the teachers are wasting no time in helping the students master new skills . The enthusiasm and energy in each class is mirrored by the activity in the courtyard and in the office where parents are busy with their fundraising efforts. Parents are selling meals in the office, spearheading fundraising events, and stirring awareness and involvement within the WSPA family. What a blessing to be working with caring and supportive parents and teachers, making WSPA a safe and nurturing place of learning. We have all the latest news and announcements in this newsletter. Please click on the article to the left that interests you. One of them is an opportunity for our students, age 14 and older, to watch the taping of the show So You Think You Can Dance. Sharing our love for dance always, Malu Rivera-Peoples School Director |

Parent Orientation - Good Turn Out! The Parent Orientation held on September 18 was attended by more than a hundred parents. I want to thank all those who attended and I hope you enjoyed my informative slide presentation. For all those who missed the orientation, here's a recap of what we covered:
1. WSPA has 3 programs of training - General School, Performance Program, and the Professional Division. Each program is designed to provide the appropriate training suited to the student's needs and preference.
2. Regular attendance is crucial to the success of every student, as well as parental support and guidance.
3. Young Performers Inc, the parent non-profit organization, plays an important role in their partnership with WSPA to provide the invaluable opportuniites to the students.
4. The 2010 Nutcracker budget that has a whopping but conservative expenditure of $47,000.00 was presented.
Please do not hesitate to sit down with me and discuss further the areas covered above. Let's work together to make sure the money and time spent on your child's training is worth your while.
I want to thank you in advance for your continued support and participation in all our fund raising efforts.

The NEW Professional Division under
Viktor Kabaniaev Training for two and a half hours a day on technique alone; and as if that is not enough, taking private lessons at least once a week; pushing your body to the limit each time; working until the muscles will strain not by choice but because of the intensity and level of work you have chosen to do; are what every member of the professional division is going through 5 days in a week with teacher Viktor Kabaniaev. It is a personal choice they made in pursuit of excellence, strength, and purity in ballet. It has turned out to be a test of strength - physically, mentally, and emotionally.
Bravo, girls! Not only for what you already have achieved, but for your brave spirit to pursue your dream.
"The miracle, or the power, that elevates the few is to be found in their industry, application, and perseverance under the promptings of a brave, determined spirit." ~ Mark Twain

A Leap to Hollywood! |
EXCITING NEWS ON TEACHERS AND STUDENTS!
Perri Sumbang - company member and student teacher, Perri Sumbang, leaves for Hollywood to pursue a degree from the American Musical and Dramatic Academy (AMDA).
Perri Sumbang grew up from a 5-year old to the beautiful Sugar Plum Fairy of last year's Nutcracker. As a young child, she demonstrated not only strength in technique but also in character which lead to a successful life of dance in WSPA. She won several awards in dance competitions for her solos in ballet, modern, and Polynesian dance styles i.e., Youth America Grand Prix, American Dance Awards, International Dance Challenge Competition, San Jose Tahiti Fete, Heiva I Reno, Kiki Raina and Tarena. She was always a role model and was well respected by her peers, thereby electing her twice as the "Oustanding Student Awardee" in her Junior and Senior years with WSPA. WSPA took pride in taking her to Scotland in 2007 and Macau in 2008 to represent in the international dance festivals. The talent and energy that Perri brings on stage is admirable and incomparable. We will miss her terribly as she pursues a BFA under partial scholarship in SoCal but looks forward to her return with a wealth of knowledge that we hope she will pass on to WSPA students someday. Good luck, Perri!!! We wish you well.
Teachers Reina Victoria and Anna Carnes to dance with Peninsula Ballet Theater ' Nutcracker - Miss Reina and Miss Anna will be performing for the Peninsula Ballet Theater, a professional company in San Mateo that presents the full length ballet with the San Mateo Philharmonic Orchestra. We look forward to watching them the weekend after our own Nutcracker Shows on Dec. 11 and 12 at the San Mateo Performing Arts Center.
