MustangsWho Doesn't Love a Mustang...

... whether it's a Ford Mustang from any era or a P-51 World War II fighter?

Fantasy of Flight's thrilling annual spring car and vintage airplane show, now in its 14th year, is the only Mustang event that showcases both restored P-51 Mustang aircraft and Ford Mustang autos of all eras, ages, and styles.

Show cars compete for a "People's Choice" award and the rare, restored P-51 fighters perform live aerial demonstrations. Children's activities, entertainment, and photo opportunities are part of the special event, which each year attracts new fans with a shared passion for the restoration of aircraft and automobiles. In honor of Women's History Month, Fantasy of Flight's Legends & Legacies Symposium series continues with "Breaking All Barriers: The Amazing Women of WWII" on March 4 & 5, 2011.  This program will feature original WASP (Women Airforce Service Pilots) and also celebrate other ladies who filled non-traditional roles such as "Rosie the Riveter."

During WWII many women found their opportunities and responsibilities expanded as the men went off to war.  From the bravery of the WASP, the first females to fly military aircraft, to the strength and motivation that was symbolized by women joining the male-dominated work force, the women of WWII made an impact on our society and the world.

Bob H. of Cincinnati, a loyal friend of Fantasy of Flight, forwarded a wonderful link about the birthplace of the collection's B-24 Liberator: Willow Run, Michigan. Rosie the Riveter and her pals managed to roll one out every 55 minutes at the height of production. Take a walk down memory lane and prepare to be amazed at what a motivated nation can do when folks work together.
