LIVE History with
The Tuskegee Airmen
Mark
your calendars for February 27 and 28, when Fantasy of Flight kicks off
"Living History," a series of once-in-a-lifetime encounters with
real heroes of aviation-starting with three original members of the
legendary Tuskegee Airmen: Leo R. Gray, Hiram Mann, and Eldridge F.
Williams. While enduring enemy bullets abroad and racism at home, these
legendary aviators broke the barrier of segregation to become the first
black combat air squadron in U.S. military history. Their
astonishing battle record has rarely been equaled, and their profound
contribution has earned them the admiration of the nation as a whole.
Fantasy
of Flight is thrilled to present a multi-media immersion into the
captivating adventures of the Tuskegee Airmen, featuring video, exhibits,
aircraft, and-most importantly-symposiums with the heroes themselves,
telling stories of their daring adventures and the powerful lessons of
their lives. You'll be bragging for years to come because YOU WERE THERE.

Next
month, on March 27 and 28, "Living History" welcomes WASP (Women
Airforce Service Pilots) in "A Passionate Pursuit," featuring
appearances by three members... Watch this space for more!

Starting
February 27 & 28, Fantasy of Flight revives the wildly popular and
utterly unique tradition of rolling out a couple classic airplanes-true
winged beauties-from the collection and encouraging guests to climb into
the cockpit. That's right: we completely drop the rope and hoist you right
into the pilot's seat!
Get
the full 3-D feel of what the pilots experienced when they crawled into
these gorgeous beasts. Preserve the experience in a photograph. Just
imagine mailing out next year's holiday card...featuring YOU in a Mustang
or a P-40!
The "open cockpit" experience requires an
extra fee from non-annual pass holders. Sound like the ideal time to renew
the annual pass? See the next item for even more encouragement...

Revealed: The Voice of Fantasy of Flight
Have
you noticed the graceful and encouraging voice that answers when you call Fantasy
of Flight? Insiders know that the unofficial "Director of First
Impressions" is more than just silky tones over the phone. She is the
nerve center of the operation: Linda Snell, the cool-as-a-cucumber voice of
Fantasy of Flight.
Asked
what question Linda receives the most, she responds without hesitation:
"What is Fantasy of Flight?" An attraction, an adventure, an
event, a museum, a metaphor, a hangar, a restoration facility? With nine
years commanding the switchboard, she has crafted the ultimate answer-a
spiel almost as captivating as the place itself. And every time she is
asked, it's like the first time... because she knows it is the first time
for the person on the other side of the line. Thanks, Linda, for being a
terrific model for Fantasy of Flight's mission-To Light the Spark Within.

National Geographic Celebrates Lindbergh's Legend
Using Fantasy of Flight Aircraft
|
No
modern celebrity has ever captured America's
heart as soundly as Charles Lindbergh did in 1927, when he flew his legendary
plane, The Spirit of St. Louis, solo across the Atlantic.
The legendary feat set the world on its ear and continues to inspire
celebration, including an upcoming television biography to be produced by
National Geographic. Eager to represent the wonders of The Spirit of St.
Louis as accurately as possible, National Geographic producers sought out
Fantasy of Flight's renowned replica of the famous monoplane to honor the
achievements of Lindbergh and his journey. Lindbergh's determination to
push boundaries and cross into unknown territories continues to inspire the
world, and we are proud to be a part of it!

Just imagine how well your car would run if, once a year, you took
it completely apart and had an expert look at each component-fix
everything that needed fixing and replaced every part on a regular basis.
It could run... well... forever. That's a big part of what goes on in the
Maintenance Hangar. Once a year, every flying airplane in the Fantasy of
Flight collection gets the ULTIMATE SPA TREATMENT-a nose to tail
inspection and a full body massage. Or the aviation equivalent: a full
review of both airframe and powerplant to determine the continuation of
"airworthiness." The Annual Inspection is not just a good idea.
It's the law as defined by the Federal Aviation Administration. And it
lets us all sleep well at night too, knowing our priceless antiques run
as well as the day they first rolled down the runway.
