Electro-Motion's second Newsletter!
As stated in the last newsletter, we wanted you to have a way to stay informed about your generator/fire pump equipment without spending a lot of time. So here's the 2nd issue of our 5-minute read. |
|
We mentioned last month that during this, our 43rd anniversary year, we would be making many improvements to our industry leading maintenance/service operations. This newsletter was the first change.
This month we feature our new, improved logo. The changes aren't radical...our logo is too well known to make that desirable. We have just made a few subtle changes and added some color...red...to make a bolder statement. Hope you like it! |
The 10 Biggest Maintenance Mistakes:
No. 2: Not Running You Generator Set Every Week
In the "Quick Tip" column of the previous Newsletter, we discussed this topic. I'm reproducing that article here for your review because not running your equipment every week is the 2nd biggest mistake made by some companies!
QUOTE...The single most important step you can take to preserve your equipment's value and dependability is to...
Run Your Unit Every Week!
Why is this so important? Quite simply, engines are made to run...not to sit, unrun, in readiness for an emergency. When they sit, all sorts of bad things can happen. Air can get into the fuel lines, lubricating oil can drain from the rubbing parts, water can condensate on electrical parts, and many more. In contrast...
By running your unit each week (called "exercising the unit"), you (a) make the unit happy by preventing bad things from happening and, equally important, (b) you get positive verification your unit is ready for a power outage.
Important note:
If you can't "exercise" to full temperature every week, run your equipment for just 15 minutes...or run it every other week.

Quick Tips #2
Keep Track of Your Running Hours
Most generator sets come equipped with a time clock (hour meter), typically mounted on the control panel. This time clock...it looks like an automobile odometer, unless you have have a digital control panel...records only when the engine is running. It typically records time in 1/10 hour (.1) increments. Example: 123.4 hours.
The Benefits of Tracking Your Running Hours:
1. It will tell you if you are running your unit often enough. Why is this so important? Quite simply, engines are made to run...not to sit. When they sit, all sorts of bad things can happen. At minimum, you should run your unit 20 hours per year. Ideally, you will "exercise" your unit for 30 minutes every week or so.
2. Information for your BAAQMD registration. If you aren't filing BAAQMD (Bay Area Air Quality Management District) paperwork every year, you probably will soon. This program will require you to track your running hours.
3. It will help you to determine fueling intervals, to understand oil analysis reports, etc.
Note: Electro-Motion keeps track of these hours for you. Just call if you need this information.

Electro-Motion has been maintaining emergency power (generator set) equipment since 1967. We are now one of the largest generator maintenance/service companies in the Bay Area. We are also the oldest generator service/maintenance company in the Bay Area...enjoying our 43rd anniversary in 2010! We are particularly known for 3 things:
First, we are the only generator company that also provides maintenance of the Automatic Transfer Switch, which is crucial for a comprehensive program. This means all the equipment in your emergency systems will be taken care of...reducing the anxiety of having only a partial job done. Second, we are committed to being close & responsive to our customers. This means we will, if called upon, respond quickly when you call. And arrive quickly in an emergency. This is difficult for other companies located in San Leandro, Stockton, etc. who, perhaps, have a lesser commitment to serving. Third, we tailor our maintenance programs to the specific needs of our clients. We do not try to "sell" them a "cookie-cutter" program that may, or may not, be suitable for their unique needs. This means you get exactly what you want and need...no more and no less. |
