We are about to reach the light at the end of the tunnel! a message from Superintendent Dr. Curtis Jones

Dr. Curtis Jones

"Gentlemen, we have run out of money. Now we have to think." -Winston Churchill

Many op-ed columns have been focused on this quote of Sir Winston Churchill. I most recently saw it in this month's issue of Galileo for Superintendents and District-Level Administrators. It is appropriate for the current financial times. For the past few years, we've worked through cost-cutting, and this past fall we went through a major effort to adjust our operations to meet our reduced revenues.

Next week, we will start seeing some of the benefits from the last three years of cost reduction efforts. We will have a called board of education meeting on Tuesday, May 29, at 6pm in the large board room for the purpose of a budget workshop. The board of education will use this meeting to begin the process of approving our FY13 budget.

For the first time since becoming superintendent, I am looking forward to this budget discussion. I've shared with you in previous columns that I'm starting to see light at the end of the tunnel. I think that after next week's board meeting, you will see it too!

Enjoy your Memorial Day weekend!
