Hello, everybody!
The Race to the Top continued this week when the Georgia Department of Education sponsored a series of steering committee meetings to help the 26 RT3 school districts move forward in implementing the state's
Race to the Top application.
On Tuesday, I was joined by Mrs. Ellen Lee, the principal of Jordan Hill Elementary School, Mrs. Kay Brumbelow, our school system's Teacher of the Year, and Mrs. Stephanie Dobbins, our HR director, at the
steering committee meeting for determining how we will evaluate teacher, leader, and school district effectiveness. We believe that we made a good decision to continue to moving forward with
Class Keys implementation, because Class Keys will be the teacher evaluation instrument used next school year.
That same group of ladies returned to Atlanta today (Friday) to be a part of the survey steering committee, and they will be looking at the measures which will determine parent, student, and community satisfaction.
Our intent remains to keep everyone informed about the Race to the Top developments.
We'll continue to post the PowerPoints we receive so that you may review them. However, PowerPoints often don't stand alone, and I think that's true in this case. As we were returning to Griffin this past Tuesday, we decided the best way to keep you informed is to talk directly to you.
So, we are going to set up two information sessions to better explain the Race to the Top progress. Keep an eye out for those dates within the next few weeks. It is exciting work, and we are continuing to move forward.
I close by telling you that I am not with the group as they return to Atlanta for today's steering committee. I am actually taking a personal leave day. I am going to Fort Worth, Texas, to celebrate my grandmother's 100th birthday. It's an exciting time, and I'm looking forward to seeing her.
In the meantime, enjoy your weekend and Dare to Do Better! Thank you!
