THE OFFICIAL E-NEWSLETTER OF THE CHRIST SCHOOL

JASON W. POWELL, Ed.D.

HEAD OF SCHOOL

TCS Family,

I had the privilege to speak to the parents of our newest kindergarten students at our Parent Teacher Fellowship's Kleenex and Coffee on Monday morning. I challenged each of the parents to take some time that evening to learn the perspective of the first day of school as seen through the eyes of their kindergarten child.

We are blessed with a new kindergarten student in our house and I did the same on Monday evening. My wife, Amy, helped me understand that from our daughter's perspective, she had reached her lifetime goal--becoming a TCS Lion! Our daughter was born during my first year as Head of TCS and she has grown up watching her two older sisters go to school, speak in chapel and do their homework. On Monday, she reached her lifelong dream of becoming a TCS kindergartener--only to be young again!

We are looking forward to all of our parents visiting for Open House tomorrow night. We will begin our Open House program in the FPCO Sanctuary at 6:30 p.m. Thank you for making childcare arrangements so that we can focus on this parent-only event.

Summer Fun: Enrichment Visits Dali Museum

Enrichment class students wrapped up their art unit with a visit to the beautiful Salvador Dali Museum in St. Petersburg . The museum offers the "Mustache Tour", a child friendly audio guide for younger students. Included in the tour were some of Dali's most famous works such as The Last Supper, Basket of Bread, Lobster Telephone and Abraham. After the tour, the group spent some time in the Dali Garden, which creates a unique environment of learning and tranquility. The Mathematical Garden allows students to experience the relationship between math and nature, and a labyrinth in the southeast corner invites exploration and fun.

The organization that founded and sponsors this new competition, the World Basketball Federation (FIBA), plans to nominate this sport as an Olympic sport in 4 years. Nick's twin brother, Zack (TCS Class of 2002), a graduate of Barry University last year, was captain and leading scorer of the basketball team his senior year. Zack currently attends FAMU College of Law Orlando. Congratulations to all three graduates.
