TCS Family,
As we complete the final week of the 2011-12 school year, I want to take this opportunity to thank two of our lower school teachers who will not be returning to TCS next year. Please join me in thanking Breanne Stevens and Erin Summer for a great year with our students. Although we are sad to say goodbye, we will be able to keep in touch with both of them next year as they will be working part-time with the Weekday School. I am sure they will be sneaking some hugs from their former students when they see them in the halls.
As we plan for next year, I am pleased to share some changes with you. First, Mrs. Gayle Bosscher will be serving as a kindergarten teacher in 2012-13. Mrs. Bosscher began her work at TCS in kindergarten and is excited to be serving our newest lions once again. We have also selected Ms. Laura Kerlek to join our faculty as a third grade teacher for next year. Ms. Kerlek will be relocating from Naples where she has taught for 16 years. In addition to her love of teaching, Laura is the proud mother of three boys, the youngest who will graduate from high school this year. Ms. Kerlek has long been a fan of TCS as she is also the proud aunt of Jordan Ellis, TCS 8th grade student. We are also planning to add an additional class to our 2nd grade next year. We will have finalists on campus teaching demonstration lessons next week as we make our final selection decision.
Here are a few additional announcements.

NJHS Induction Earlier today, 17 seventh graders were inducted into The Christ School's chapter of the National Junior Honor Society. Each spring, TCS recognizes students who have demonstrated their strength in five areas: scholarship, service, leadership, character, and citizenship. To meet the requirement for scholarship, a student must achieve a minimum cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.5 throughout his/her middle school years. Service, leadership, character, and citizenship are established both within and outside of school, and this year's students have served and led in a wide variety of ways and locations. The induction ceremony was led by the current 8th grade members. Congratulations to this year's inductees: Sarah Berger Noah Chevalier Will Dobson Connor Eakins Sam Emsley Caroline Kefauver Jimmy Lane Katie McCree Parker Mealey Jake Meisenheimer Hallie Millard Hannah Millard Dominick Orlando Davis Pittenger Hannah Roman Skyla Seaman Haley Wass |
 Duke University Recognizes TCS Students
Over 60% of our current 7th grade students (17) were invited to participate in the Duke University Talent Identification Program, Duke TIP, which identifies academically promising 7th graders based on their standardized test scores in 6th grade. Candidates are then invited to take the SAT or the ACT which allows them greater insight into their academic abilities. After sitting for the high school SAT or ACT, four of our students were awarded state recognition by Duke TIP by scoring at or above the national average of high school juniors or seniors on at least one part of the SAT or the ACT. Congratulations to Sam Emsley, Caroline Kefauver, Jimmy Lane, and Haley Wass.

Pastors' Chapel
June 1st!
The Christ School's Pastors' Chapel is Friday, June 1st, and all local pastors, youth leaders, and children's ministry leaders are invited. We hope that your pastor(s) will join us for this chapel and see how our students are standing strong in their faith. Invitations were sent home in backpacks last week and all TCS families are encouraged to share this invitation with leaders in their church. Parents are also invited to attend this final school-wide chapel of the year led by our students. For more information, please contact Nicole Millard.

Summer Reading for rising 1st thru 5th graders. Are You Up to the Challenge? Reading during the summer gives students an opportunity to take off on new literary adventures and practice their skills so that when the new school year begins, they'll be ready. To help students get fired up for reading on their own during the summer, we're offering a gift certificate for the fall Book Fair to all TCS students who complete a minimum number of books over the summer. Information about The Christ School Summer Reading Challenge 2012 will be sent home with students before the end of the school year. Let's read & roar! |
Thank you to all of our families who have turned in this school year. If you still have some clipped Box Tops at home, be sure to turn them in to your teacher by the end of the school year and remember - keep clipping over the summer! Thank you to all who clip for TCS: students, teachers, parents, grandparents, neighbors and friends. You make this fundraiser a success! For more information on this program, please contact Box Tops for Education.
