THE OFFICIAL E-NEWSLETTER OF THE CHRIST SCHOOL

JASON W. POWELL, Ed.D.

HEAD OF SCHOOL

As you begin to make plans for the summer, I would like to encourage you to consider enrolling your child in one or both weeks of our 2012 Summer Odyssey. Our enriching summer program will be offered during the weeks of June 18 and June 25. The Summer Odyssey is also open to non-TCS students and is a great way to introduce family members and friends to our school community. You can review all of the course offerings by accessing our summer program registration packet. Please note that the registration deadline is Monday, May 7.

Receive the 7-hour American Red Cross Babysitter's training, learn and practice fun age-appropriate activities and begin babysitting the following week! Babysitter's Training is offered June 25 - 29th from 9:00 am - 3:30 pm. Sign up now!

book fair logo 10 11Thank you to Mrs. Segrest, TCS Book Fair Chair, and PTF volunteers, Debbie Jones and Lisa Heesch, for organizing another successful TCS book fair. Our classrooms and library & media center have many new books for our students to enjoy!

"Our Spring Book Fair was a roaring success! Many friends and family members made this fundraising event special, while supporting the students of TCS. There was a great selection of summer reads from which to choose, and many people took advantage. With the popularity of "The Hunger Games" movie, the young adult book series on which it is based sparked much interest. It was exciting to see students and parents engage in conversation about content and age appropriateness. The energy of our students, staff, and volunteers was appreciated, and we look forward to our fall book fair." Katie Segrest.

Second Graders Make Soup for Science

What part of the plant are you eating when you enjoy a tasty carrot? Vegetables were the key for a reading, math, health, and fabulous science lesson on the Parts of the Plant We Eat. As second graders study botany, they learn to identify plants, their parts and functions. The students had a lot of fun preparing vegetables for soup and considering where each one grew on the plant. The vegetable soup they cooked was a tasty reminder of the gifts God provides and an exciting science lesson, too.
