THE OFFICIAL E-NEWSLETTER OF THE CHRIST SCHOOL

JASON W. POWELL, Ed.D.

HEAD OF SCHOOL

TCS Family,

I want to thank everyone for a great Mane Event this past Saturday. It was a lot of fun to celebrate The Christ School and I was moved by the commitment and support for our school and its mission.

I will always remember the energy in the room when a group of our fathers made such a passionate case for an "on-the-spot" ask for designated donations to replace our classroom furniture. It was especially moving and different from a typical auction because when the paddles were raised, the donors received nothing in exchange beyond the satisfaction of knowing they were directly impacting the daily experience of our students and teachers in our classrooms. That was powerful!

Many of you have asked about the results of the evening. While we are continuing to finalize our income and expenses, we know that we have been greatly blessed by God through the generosity of our school community. Initial calculations show that we will receive over $120,000 from the events of the evening! This includes over $43,000 that was raised exclusively for the replacement of classroom furniture. We are grateful for God's blessings and promise to be wise stewards of the trust and confidence placed in our school through these generous gifts.

Some who were not able to attend the Mane Event have asked if there is still an opportunity to participate in the classroom furniture project and the answer is YES! If you were not able to do so on Saturday night and would like to make a designated gift, please contact Joanne Fleming.  We have already begun planning for the replacement of our furniture and it is our desire to have the new classroom furniture ready for our students and teachers when they return for the first day of school this fall.

Here are a few fun photos from Saturday night.  Please visit:  www.bethlewisphotos.com, enter user ID: Event2012 with password: Mane to view more.

2nd Grade Leu Gardens

Second Graders Experience Sensational Science and Social Studies Lessons at Leu Gardens

To enhance classroom botany and history lessons, second graders visited Harry P. Leu Gardens. They discovered how plants adapt to arid regions and tropical stream regions. They learned about butterflies and how specific plants attract various species. Within the garden is a home built in 1888. Many comparisons were made between life then and life now as the children toured this lovely dwelling. Memories of a fabulous, fun morning in the gardens will not fade.
