THE OFFICIAL E-NEWSLETTER OF THE CHRIST SCHOOL

JASON W. POWELL, Ed.D.

HEAD OF SCHOOL

Parents, please note that Friday, March 2nd, is an Early Dismissal Day.  Lower School carpool will open at 12:20 pm.  Middle School carpool will open at 12:40 pm.  Carpool will close at 1:00 pm.  No cars will be allowed into carpool prior to 12:20 pm due to the Weekday School Carpool. Extended Care is closed.

TCS Odyssey of the Mind students experienced the Socratic Method of learning. Coaches helped their teams find solutions to long-term problems by asking questions. Coaches were not permitted to give answers in anyway. The coaches were permitted to teach a skill set but it was up to the Odyssey teams to link and apply ideas and utilize skills without suggestion or assistance.

Each team selected a long-term problem. They were then asked to stretch their minds and see the world in a new way. How are things created?  Is there a new way to create it?  If a form is changed, what could it be?   For example, one team member cut an old rubber ball in half, turned it inside out and spray painted it shiny black.  The ball made a perfect helmet to match the big black swimming goggles that doubled as racing goggles.

One parent stated, "It is refreshing to see children using their minds and hands to build things outside for hours on end, like the good old days."Odyssey - Max & Nicholas

Congratulations to our TCS Odyssey teams who presented the solutions to their projects this past Saturday in competition.  They all did a fantastic job!

2012 Disney Dreamers and Doers Program

TCS has the opportunity to nominate 2 students (one from elementary and one from middle school) for the 2012 Disney Dreamers and Doers Program. To be considered for this honor, students must self-nominate and ask a teacher to endorse their application.  Students self-nominate by writing a paragraph of 300 words or less about something they have done at home, in school, or in their community that has inspired others and makes our world a better place. The deadline for submitting self-nomination forms is Friday, March 9th.

Guidance Counselor

By: Kristi Ryan

TCS Guidance Counselor

As iron sharpens iron, so a man sharpens the countenance of his friend.

~ Proverbs 27:17

Our chapel theme for the month of March is Standing Strong for Others. Using this theme as a springboard, Mrs. Ryan is facilitating a small group for boys in grades 4-6. The group will begin on March 7th and meet weekly for 6 weeks. Participants will discuss the social aspects of school, sharpen skills associated with making and maintaining friendships and learn what it means to be "Upstanders" who support classmates, stand up for one another and serve as role models for younger students.

If your son is in 4th, 5th or 6th grade and would like to be part of this small group experience, please contact Kristi Ryan for more information and a permission form.

The Christ School partners with families to provide an academically rigorous and Christ-centered K-8 experience.

Our students and graduates confidently pursue excellence in scholarship, service and leadership.
