TCS Family,
As our students build momentum in the 2nd semester of the school year, I want to encourage each family to take a few minutes to review the report card from the 2nd grading period and have a conversation about setting goals. We want each student to do their best and the beginning of a grading period is a wonderful time to reflect and refocus.
As we begin our 2nd semester we are saying goodbye to one of our loved TCS faculty members as Mrs. Holly Kahn has made the prayerful decision to focus on her family full-time. Mrs. Kahn's students showered her with love and thanks on Monday.
At this same time, we welcome Mrs. Karen Fatizzi, our newest faculty team member, to her first grade teaching position. Mrs. Fatizzi is a graduate of the University of Montevallo and holds a bachelor's degree in Early Childhood/Elementary Education and has a Montessori Teacher Certification. She has taught 1st grade for several years at schools including Lake Mary Montessori Academy and The Park Maitland School. She also teaches 1st grade Sunday School at Northland Church. Mrs. Fatizzi is enjoying getting to know her new students and she had the opportunity to visit with the parents in her class at a reception yesterday.
Here are a few additional announcements:

TCS Gifted Triad
The Blue Dragon Sea Slug, the History of Lacrosse, Deforestation in Costa Rica, and Save the Slow Loris were projects researched and presented by the Gifted Triad students this semester. In addition to creating a website, Reid Marlett and John Segrest raised approximately $60 through their "Save the Slow Loris" fundraiser. A check will be sent to the International Animal Rescue Organization. Eighth graders, Robbie Isaacs and Jonathan Zainer, did a fantastic job on their History of Lacrosse website and seventh grader, Sam Emsley, with his Simulation Training website. Congratulations to all of the Gifted Triad for a fantastic semester of learning.

Happy Birthday, Mrs. L
This past week, TCS' legendary 2nd grade teacher, Mrs. Leadbitter, was showered with love in celebration of her 70th birthday. Friday morning (January 27) began with a special chapel filled with worship music and visitors from Mrs. Leadbitter's past classes. TCS alumni from local high schools and universities returned to campus to show their appreciation to their favorite 2nd grade teacher. On Monday (January 30), the current 2nd grade classes continued the celebration of Mrs. L's big day with cupcakes, balloons, flowers, gifts and special praises for why they believe she is so special:
"She's an awesome teacher, good at math, good at coaching kickball, encouraging, thankful, helps us sound out hard words, very, very kind, helps us learn and never gives up, helps us grow and try new things, a good singer, she is happy and cares about us."
Happy Birthday, Mrs. Leadbitter, your students loves you!

Standing Strong in Weakness By: Kristi Ryan TCS Guidance Counselor We all do it, possibly even daily. We stand in front of the mirror and focus on what we deem to be our flaws. What does God think when we critique His creation in this fashion? He created us in His very own image, He numbered the hairs on our head, and, in Genesis 1:31, He declared all that He made very good. This includes us. What do we say to God when we want to change something He created? If we critique ourselves too harshly or allow others to criticize us, we effectively say to God that what He made is not good enough. How can we stand strong in our weakness and help our children do the same? When your children confide in you about an imperfection or weakness they are struggling with, here are some suggested steps to take in response: 1. Acknowledge the difficulty, disappointment or hurt they are experiencing. 2. Remind them of the above Biblical truths. 3. Pray with your children, asking God for comfort, confidence in Him and contentment. 4. Encourage them to allow God to use every aspect of their being. Reassure them that God knows our strengths and weaknesses and can use our weaknesses for His kingdom. Brainstorm possible ways that God could use the situation for good. 5.Lovingly put a stop to comparisons. "Comparison is the enemy of contentment." Redirect children if they begin comparing themselves with others. 6.Help them stand up for themselves and each other when someone makes them feel less than good about themselves by practicing possible responses to hurtful statements. "My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness." Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ's power may rest on me. ~ 2 Corinthians 12:9 |
