TCS Family,
I hope you and your family had a wonderful Christmas break together. We are excited for 2012! Yesterday was a great day as we welcomed our students, faculty and staff back on campus. I enjoyed seeing our students so quickly re-engaged in learning as I visited the classrooms. We have just 2 ½ weeks remaining in the 1st semester and current grading period. This is the perfect opportunity for each student to work hard for a strong finish as we wrap up the first half of the 2011-12 school year. Please encourage your child to make the most of this opportunity.
Here are a few additional announcements:

8th Grade Goes to Court Mix a theft scenario with no script, an actual Orange County courtroom, and 26 middle school students and what do you get? A learning experience that requires quick thinking and produces much laughter. Our 8th grade social studies students recently conducted a mock trial with the Honorable Judge Wilfredo Martinez. Each student had a role which included attorneys, the judge, witnesses and jurors. The field trip was a culmination of the 8th grade's study of the Constitution and citizen's rights and responsibilities. The students so impressed the judge that he invited them to come back to conduct a mock trial for a civil case. |
Deeper Roots, Sprouting Joy On Wednesday, December 7, TCS middle school students visited with the residents of Westminster Plaza. The students sang Christmas carols, engaged in conversation and presented the seniors with potted plants as gifts. The event, organized by the Eight Grade Class Council, was an extension of this year's middle school retreat theme, Deeper Roots. The following note from a Westminster Plaza resident indicates that the students' efforts to Sprout Joy were much appreciated. Dear Students, Thank you so much for the plants. I used to have a big garden and love to have plants in the house. There is a window sill that I can put this plant on that is on the north side and I will take care of it for you. This was one of the most delightful things ever done for us. You all behaved beautifully. We don't see a lot of young people and if you are samples of the coming generation, it is very encouraging. God bless you all.
Sincerely, Jean Harr |
TCS After Care - Teamwork and Community
Community is a huge theme in the Bible and the foundation for The Christ School After Care Program. Community is where we develop Christian character and are pointed toward living lives that center on the gospel of Christ. In After Care, K - 8th grade students have been playing games that require teamwork to accomplish goals. There are many challenges that arise when working with a team that consists of children from multiple grade level. These moments are excellent for community-building. Whether it is cheering on a teammate for doing his/her part or for carrying the weight of another, teamwork definitely helps us grow. The Christ School After Care is a community that consists of K - 8th grade students and their After Care team leaders. It is a community that is learning and thriving together. It is the After Care team leaders' prayer that their activities will help grow TCS students into Christian leaders and inspire greater community among all TCS students. For more information on The Christ School After Care Program, please contact Linsy Joyner, Coordinator.
