THE OFFICIAL E-NEWSLETTER OF THE CHRIST SCHOOL

JASON W. POWELL, Ed.D.

HEAD OF SCHOOL

We are having a great week on campus. Tomorrow evening, we will enjoy our 2-5 Grade Christmas Program and we will end the week on Friday with an early dismissal day for our students.

On Friday afternoon, all of our faculty will be engaged in a professional development activity focused on bullying awareness, intervention and prevention. Bullying, while nothing new in children, has received a great amount of media attention recently and it is important that we responsibly and thoughtfully equip our faculty with current research-based information about this topic. Activities such as Friday's are a great way for our faculty to model our vision for our students to be life-long learners.

Here are a few additional announcements.

Parents, please note

Friday, December 9, is an Early Dismissal Day.

Lower School carpool will open at 12:20 pm.

The Christ School has been Infected!

The 7th grade life science class has just started the unit on viruses. The big question is whether viruses are alive or not. To be considered living you must have all 6 specific characteristics that are found in all living things. Viruses do possess some of the 6 characteristics, however to be considered living they need all 6.  In class we enjoyed learning about the very small size of a virus, 250 nm (a billionth of a meter) and how they come in all shapes.  We enjoyed making some viruses and sneaking down to some administrative offices to infect them. Some students made real viruses like the common cold or chicken pox, but these offices were also infected with new viruses like, the toe jam virus. The kids had a blast and learned along the way.

Communicating with Children

(Continued)

By: Kristi Ryan

Guidance Counselor

We are in constant communication. Technology allows us to instantly correspond with others and, yet, we often struggle to effectively connect. All successful and fruitful relationships, including that with our Creator, have one thing in common - strong communication. So, how can we fortify our connection with our children through our conversations? A reminder of the basics may help. The PBS article Positive Ways to Talk and Listen provides some great strategies.

The Christ School partners with families to provide an academically rigorous and Christ-centered K-8 experience.

Our students and graduates confidently pursue excellence in scholarship, service and leadership.
