TCS Family,
I want to take this opportunity to share some exciting news. Providing an academically rigorous educational experience for our students is a key part of our mission. A culture of excellence does not happen simply because it is a stated value of the organization; it requires thoughtful work by professional educators. The Christ School has made an investment in the ongoing pursuit of academic excellence by engaging Erin Mander of Master Mind Educational Consulting to focus on school-wide curriculum enhancement. Erin and Susan Chisari, interim-TCS Principal, have begun working closely with our teachers in continuing to strengthen our strong academic program.
The four points below outline this important work and explain what it means to a parent:
- Curriculum alignment - knowing as a parent that the goals, standards, and instruction at TCS all work together to reach the same common target of helping my child reach his or her full potential academically. As a result of this focus, as my child moves from grade-to-grade, I am confident of what he or she knows (understands) and is able to do (skills).
- Assessment of student learning - knowing as a parent that the understandings and skills that my child has can be quantified and qualified through varied means. As a result of this focus, I am confident that whether I am examining a report card or a student learning plan-progress is being monitored and valued as part of a school-wide initiative.
- Curriculum mapping - knowing as a parent that TCS is carefully determining what, where, and how every concept and skill is taught in kindergarten through 8th grade. As a result of this focus, I am confident that the instructional patterns provide continuity and scaffolding which leads to grade-to-grade level alignment.
- Processes for on-going curriculum enhancement - knowing as a parent that TCS is constantly looking at design, implementation, and assessment which is chosen and advanced school-wide. As a result of this focus, I am confident that there is a distinct cycle that is visited yearly with a critical eye on mirroring best practices in every area of academic development.
I look forward to sharing more updates with you as the important work progresses.

TCS has a new face!
Please welcome Ann Wallace as our new first floor, front desk, afternoon receptionist. She will be working Monday through Friday from 12:00 pm to 5:30 pm. Ann has worked as a journalism teacher and writer/photographer. She has had the pleasure of interviewing the likes of Eric Clapton and Julie Andrews. Ann has a wonderful heart for Christ and is a welcomed addition to The Christ School family.
Until Ann becomes familiar with faces, she will be asking for the picture ID's of adults as they pick up their children. This is part of our commitment to keeping your children safe. Thank you for your understanding and patience.

It's beginning to sound a lot like Christmas in The Christ School's music classroom. The kindergarten and first grade students are learning several traditional carols as they prepare to present "The Christmas Pageant," on Thursday, December 15th at 9:30 a.m. in the FPCO Sanctuary. The second through fifth grade students have been diligently working on a number of songs for their Christmas program "Let Heaven and Nature Sing," on Thursday, December 8th at 7:00 p.m. in the FPCO Sanctuary.
Our girls' choir did a wonderful job singing America the Beautiful last week in chapel. They are preparing a beautiful Christmas song that they hope to share in a December chapel. |
TCS 2nd - 5th Grade Christmas Program PTF and your children are diligently working on the 2nd - 5th grades Christmas Program scheduled for Thursday, December 8th. Please mark your calendars! To help with the program, will you please share one of your family's favorite Christmas photos? Suggested pictures include your family decorating your tree, caroling, opening gifts or posed in front of the Christmas tree. Please email your favorite photo to Lindsay Bryan by Monday, November 28th. If you need additional information, please contact event co-chairs, Charmon Shuford or Jan Gullikson. |
TCS Scientists The seventh grade science students have made their DNA models and the results are in for the winners. First place goes to Sarah Berger, second place to Noah Chevalier, third place to Hannah Roman, fourth place to Chloe Kranston, fifth place to Molly Blastic, and sixth place to Emma Ausen. Congratulations, all, on a job well done! |

What can you make from plastic bags, 2 liter bottles, card board and a wealth of other recyclable materials? Animals, of course! Third grade has completed their animal unit by using their creativeness and recyclable materials to create the animal of their choosing. You can view these animals by either going to the media center or visiting the third floor spiral staircase landing. Be careful! It is a zoo out there!

Bowling With Cast Fifty-four middle school students met at Colonial Lanes Friday, November 11 for an early evening of fun, food, and bowling! We had some amazing bowlers out there on the lanes. (Yes, that statement may be taken in two ways!) Parents, once again, we couldn't have done this event without you. Thank you for transporting your child to this activity. |

What happens if you give a dog a donut? Just ask Mrs. Schwalk's first graders. Mrs. Susan Clauss, who works in the school office and directs afternoon carpool, recently participated in our TCS guest reader program and shared Laura Numeroff's new book, If You Give A Dog A Donut. The book is just one of many titles that our Library & Media Center acquired as a result of your support of the TCS Book Fair.
