THE OFFICIAL E-NEWSLETTER OF THE CHRIST SCHOOL

JASON W. POWELL, Ed.D.

HEAD OF SCHOOL

In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.   Matthew 5:16

The Christ School community gathered together last Friday for a Great Day of Service! I had the privilege of visiting most of the sites where our students, teachers and parents were serving and it was uplifting to see them meaningfully engaged in focusing on others. The smiles on their faces and light in their eyes made it clear that they indeed were illuminating the love of Christ in our community. Please join me in thanking our Parent Teacher Fellowship event co-chairs, Lisa Bourne and Dana Loncar for their leadership in making this an impactful day.

Jason reading
Some books are meant to be read aloud, to be savored and explained, with pictures shared and a voice that gives added meaning to the words.Thank You Mr. Falker, by Patricia Polacco, is one such book and Dr. Powell shared it with Mrs. Bosscher's third grade class recently.  It's a story for teachers and students, a story of love and hard work, a story of standing strong and facing fear. And, it has a wonderful surprise ending! Thank you, Dr. Powell, for bringing the story to life for the third grade students.

Guidance Counselor

High School Transition

Kristi Ryan
Guidance Counselor

"I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go: I will counsel you with my loving eye on you." ~ Psalm 32:8

Psalm 32:8 is our key chapel verse in February, and our theme for the month will be Standing Strong When Making Tough Decisions.  I know that I shouldn't be, but I am always amazed at how present God is in the details.  February 15th is the deadline for applying to high school magnet programs in Orange County and February is a critical time of decision making in the life of our 8th graders transitioning to high school.  What high school should I attend?  What classes should I take?  God knows that transitioning to high school is both exciting and anxiety-provoking, and he knew that all of us, particularly our 8th grade families, would need the reassurance of Psalm 32:8 at precisely this time of the year.  I would love to take credit for the timing of this chapel theme and verse, but to God alone be the glory as that was His doing.

I am here, however, to help with the transition.  We will kick off the season of high school preparation on Wednesday, October 19th at 7:00 p.m. in the Reformation Chapel.  All middle school parents are invited to join us for High School Parent Information Night.  Topics that will be addressed include applying to Orange County Public School magnet programs, navigating the public school enrollment process, attending private school open houses, selecting 9th grade courses and considering college admissions. I look forward to partnering with you as we prepare our students for a smooth transition and success at the high school level.

The Christ School partners with families to provide an academically rigorous and Christ-centered K-8 experience.

Our students and graduates confidently pursue excellence in scholarship, service and leadership.
