TCS Family,
The 2010-11 school year continues to be a great year and I find it remarkable how quickly the weeks come and go. It is hard to imagine that Spring Break is in two weeks and our students and teachers will be away for the summer vacation in three short months.
I am looking forward to celebrating this magnificent year at the Mane Event Dinner and Auction on Saturday, March 19, at 6:00 pm at The Country Club of Orlando. We have an amazing team of dedicated volunteers who have been working hard all year to plan for this event. The Mane Event is a wonderful way to enjoy The Christ School community and to provide financial support for the mission of our school. Please plan to be part of the celebration on Saturday, March 19th.
Take a quick look at what the next several days have in store for your children as we countdown to Saturday, March 19. You'll see that the fun has just begun! There is an activity for everyone. Parents, make your party plans soon, as the RSVP deadline is Monday, March 14. Here are a few Mane Event Q's and A's:
Q: What should I wear?
A: "Cocktail" attire for both ladies and men. Ladies, this means dresses or dressy pantsuits will be seen throughout the ballroom. Men, you're invited to wear a suit, coat and tie, or blazer and trousers. (Jeans are not permitted.)
Q: What time will we Get This Party Started?
A: Doors open at The Country Club of Orlando at 6:00 pm. Shopping at our Silent Auction will take place from 6:00 until 8:00 pm. The Dinner and Live Auction begin in the ballroom promptly at 8:00 pm.
Q: I need to secure a babysitter. How late will the party last?
A: Dancing under the stars begins immediately following the conclusion of our Live Auction. So, plan accordingly! The party will still be in full-swing late into the evening.
Q: How do I buy tickets?
A: Your reservation is your ticket. Make your reservation by completing the RSVP card and returning it to The Christ School Office. The reservation deadline is Monday, March 14th.
Q: How do I plan to sit with my friends?
A: Ballroom doors will open at 8:00 pm. Sponsored tables will be designated. The remaining tables will provide open seating. So, simply choose your seats at that time. They are open on a first-come, first-served basis.
Q: What is my bid number?
A: You will receive your bid number to use during the Silent and Live Auctions at check-in. In addition, you will have the opportunity to purchase raffle and drink tickets. Checks and all major credit cards will be accepted for all purchases.
Q: Where is The Country Club of Orlando located?
A: It's centrally located, with easy access from HWY 441 and HWY 50. The address is 1601 Country Club Drive, Orlando, 32804. Telephone: 407-849-0990.
Q: Where should I park?
A: Valet parking and self-parking are both available at the front entrance of The Club.
Q: Have I left anything out?
A: That's it! Just come!! |

March 17 - 6:30 pm
The science lab is brewing with excitement and energy this week as 7th and 8th grade students share the findings of their science projects. The presentations offer the highlights of the work that has been completed over the past several months. Students in 7th grade were tasked with choosing a topic related to Life science. Some of the topics include,
"Which type of music help students do their school work", "Which type of fruit contains the most vitamin C" and "What food allows hamsters to run the fastest?" The 8th grade students chose topics related to Physical science such as: "Which liquid will cause a bottle rocket to fly the longest" and "Which form of insulation blocks sound the best". Please join us Thursday, March 17, in Room B12, 6:30 pm - 7:30 pm. All the projects will be on display and the winners will be announced. |

Second Grade Students Send "Flat Stanleys" Traveling!
In February, each second grade student created a "Flat Stanley" resembling the character they read about in a fun book, Flat Stanley. In the book, "Flat Stanley" travels in an envelope; so the students chose friends for their creations to visit. Next, they learned how to write friendly letters and how to address an envelope. On Friday during Walking Lunch, they mailed their "Flat Stanleys" at the Orlando Post Office. They had the opportunity to see what happens at the Post Office and to learn about the commitment of mail carriers. The students are looking forward to hearing all about their Flat Stanleys' adventures and the places in North America they visit. |

The 3rd Floor is Alive
With the Sound of Music!
Life is good in the music corner of The Christ School. Our middle school elective students are keeping busy in their various music courses. First, the Orff Ensemble students have been working on playing major scales and arpeggios. The Improv Theatre students are having a ball playing theatre games and exploring improv conflict scenes. Finally, the music appreciation students are wrapping up a section on world music and headed on to learning about their role as an audience. There is a group of talented young men who are exploring the use of their great singing voices through the men's chorus club, which is lots of fun!
In elementary school, students continue to learn a lot about theory and ensemble work through the use of the great new Orff instruments. However, that is certainly not all they are doing. Kindergarten students are learning about ¾ time with the "Skater's Waltz.." First grade students are doing some movement activities to learn more about phrasing. The second graders will be learning an ancient dance this week: Abbots Bromley Horn Dance. The third graders will be enjoying the Great Big House in New Orleans and a traditional folk dance. Grade four continues to progress in their recorder playing, learning "E" this week. Finally, fifth grade is learning about syncopation and tricky rhythms, as they go on a "mango walk" and also talk a little bit about ragtime music. |

BUGS NO MORE!
The 8th Grade Class would like to say THANK YOU to all the families that stopped by Chick-fil-A on Orange Avenue for a car wash this past Saturday. The students were busy washing cars all day and their efforts raised enough funds to cover the cost of the bus for Gradventure! |
