Another Amazing Grandparents' Day

by:  Hannah Millard, TCS Middle School Student

TCS students were very enthusiastic about this year's Grandparents' Day.  It is always a cheery program and very exciting to see the grandparents gladly tour the school.  The grandparent turnout was great and who wouldn't want to see their grandchild perform in the sanctuary just for them?!?

The program was brought to life as kindergarten through 8th grade students marched into the sanctuary holding flags depicting their grade level.  The singing was led by Wil Brown, Middle School students talked about The Christ School, grandchildren competed against their grandparents in an exciting game show, beautiful music was performed by the students and much, much more made Grandparents' Day 2011 extra special!  Dr. Powell, announced many exciting awards including who had the most grandchildren (19!) and who traveled the farthest (8,000 miles from China).  Grandparents enjoyed watching a video about their grandchildren's wonderful school and the program ended with pictures of grandparents submitted by their proud grandchildren.    Alas, the day was an amazing success!

debate

 The Beginning of Debate:

The ability to give an effective verbal presentation is an important skill.   Students in Public Speaking / Debate class are currently writing a speech.  Next week they will put it together with nonverbal communication skills we are learning: eye contact, body positioning/movement, gestures, poise and positive attitude! Then, they will discuss the Middle School Public Debate Program rules and the seven key areas of debate.

Students Create Art Using Technology

KidPix continues to be a favorite with kindergarten and first grade students in computer class.  They are learning to maneuver the mouse,  discover the tools of technology and create art!   They are using MANY tools in KidPix, including paint brushes, erasers, shapes, and clipart to make their images of TCS come to life.

lunch with Mr. Bosscher

Introducing the

Apple Corps

Daily, fifth grade students eat lunch in the Warehouse.  However, every Wednesday four 5th graders meet with Mr. Bosscher for lunch in their classroom for a special time together known as the Apple Corps.  Each student is privileged to have a quiet lunch with Mr. Bosscher about once every five weeks.

During lunch, the Apple Corps  discusses how the year has been going, what can be improved in the classroom, and what they have enjoyed about 5th grade.  Other topics have touched on what they admire about their moms and dads, one thing they appreciate about a classmate, and most recently one thing they would change in their lives.

A good, quiet lunch promotes good conversation.  The Apple Corps has enjoyed great discussions about how God has gifted each of them, the importance of reading the Bible, and the necessity of daily prayer.  Some students now have accountability partners to help them with a personal goal.  Every Apple Corps lunch ends with dessert - one of Mr. Bosscher's homemade chocolate chip cookies!
