TCS Family,
The Christ School students are adjusting well to the routines of the new school year. I enjoyed visiting all of our classrooms after chapel this morning. Our after school sports programs are off to a great start, and I have heard positive reports from both our volleyball and cross country coaches. Parents and students at all grade levels are always welcome at our sporting events. This is a great way to celebrate The Christ School community. Our after school art experiences will begin soon and there are still spaces available for some of the offerings. I am excited about the expanded after school arts offerings available to our students on campus as a result of our new partnership with the First Presbyterian Church of Orlando and the Orlando Community School of the Arts.
We will begin sharing the 5-year vision and strategic plan with our families at neighborhood meetings next week. Meetings have been planned at various locations and times of the day in order to provide everyone an opportunity to participate. Our board chairman, Jeff Dilley, and I will be sharing information about all of the activities and plans that are underway. |

Celebrating 15!
We are excited to start our 15th year with the first phase of TCS campus signage! Check out our signs on the corner of Jackson and Rosalind and on the front of Allen Hall facing Church Street. Within hours of the signs going up, a family newly located in Orlando stopped in to learn about TCS! |

Hurricane Season
As we enter into hurricane season, we want to remind you that we will follow the decision of the Orange County School District in determining our school's closure. Please monitor local television and radio stations for announcements of an emergency closing. If possible, we will communicate with you by email, and we will change our phone greeting reflecting our closure status. |
Carpool "Top 10"
Welcome back TCS! Carpool is in full swing and we want to make sure that our staff and your children are as safe as possible. Check out The Christ School Carpool "Top 10" for the most important things to remember:
- Safety First!
- Refrain from cell phone use, including texting.
- Have child(ren) exit the car during morning carpool on the passenger side only after a TCS staff or patrol has opened your car door.
- Do not park in the Clayton Life Center underground parking garage. This is a reserved garage.
- All children should be walked in or dropped off through morning carpool. If you park on Church, Jackson or Rosalind, please escort your child(ren) into Allen Hall.
- Safety Patrol morning drop off is at 7:55 a.m. Patrols and their siblings are the only children permitted to be dropped off at 7:55 a.m. Parents of patrols - please proceed with caution as you travel through the Angel Wing and make sure your patrol is safely inside Allen Hall before driving away.
- Carpools - Got one?
- Please display a dashboard sign with the names of the children in your carpool for afternoon pickup.
- Please wait for direction from carpool staff before exiting the carpool lane.
- When walking in to pick up your child(ren), please use the east side of the carpool lane (Sanctuary side) to keep our loading zone free from foot traffic. Please exit Allen Hall using the southeast exit door.
Thank you for your attention to these "Top 10" important carpool safety tips. We love our students and faculty and remain focused on #1 - Safety First.

TCS Science Lab is Sizzling!
The science lab is a constant for fun activities, and our 6th, 7th and 8th grade students are enjoying this newly renovated space. The Physical Science class has observed physical and chemical properties in a Tums while also learning about how to write a chemical formula. The Earth and Life Science classes are learning how to do the "perfect" scientific experiment to prepare them for the science fair later this year. They are working on discovering which gum blows the biggest bubble, which diaper holds the most water and which type of material makes a helicopter fall the fastest. |

End of Summer Box Top$ Collection
It is time to turn in those Box Top$ you've been collecting since last school year! We have added an end of summer collection date this year and will be rewarding the class that turns in the most Box Top$....so send in those neatly clipped Box Top$ coupons you've been saving by THIS FRIDAY, September 3rd. You can also send in the Bonus Box Top$ coupons found on selected products at Publix. They can all be sent to your child's classroom in a baggie labeled with the teacher's name. Are you still wondering what Box Top$ is all about? Check out the attached letter for more information. Last year we helped raise money for a SMART board for the Media Center by earning more than $1500-that's a lot of 10 cent coupons! Keep up the great work! |
Balloon + Air = Weight
Fourth grade is studying weather in science this week. They began with an experiment using air. Two balloons without air weighed the same. Upon blowing up one of the balloons, the students learned that air takes up space and has weight!

The Christ School Arts After School Joins
Dance Classes Are Beginning and Art Classes Are Forming
The name is new but the great dance and art classes are the same. The Christ School Arts After School program is being offered through the Orlando Community School of the Arts as a result of our partnership with FPCO's Worship Arts Ministry. Mrs. Heidi Towle is teaching ballet and tap for K-1 students on Mondays and 2-5 students on Fridays right after school. Classes begin this week but it is not too late to join the fun! Mrs. Towle will schedule makeup classes if your dancer misses the first week; she may even have the perfect size tap shoes for your budding tapper. Mrs. Rose has already begun purchasing supplies for her Art Explorations classes which begin the week of September 13. The registration for dance and art classes is online. If you have any questions about registration or are interested in other available classes, including private instruction in piano, clarinet, flute and guitar, please contact Sharon Darin. |
