WHIPLASH IS ONLY HELPED WITH CHIROPRACTIC

Recently, the British Journal of Orthopaedic Medicine reported that chiropractic is the only proven effective treatment in whiplash injury. The study was prompted by a previous article in the journal Injury which demonstrated that chiropractic treatment had benefited 26 out of 28 patients suffering from whiplash syndrome.

The authors of the British study begin their paper by explaining that "Conventional treatment of patients with whiplash is disappointing". The study found that 74% of patients improved following chiropractic treatment.

In another study from Australia which appeared in the Journal of Manipulative and Physiological Therapeutics, researchers reported that while chiropractic is effective for neck and back pain, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory (Ibuprofen, aspirin, naproxen...) drugs are not. See below if you were prescribed an NSAID from your doctor, they may not be up to date on their research.

BLUEBERRIES STOP HEART DISEASE

History

For centuries, blueberries were gathered from the forests and the bogs by Native Americans and consumed fresh and also preserved. The blossom end of each berry, the calyx, forms the shape of a perfect five-pointed star; the elders of the tribe would tell of how the Great Spirit sent "star berries" to relieve the children's hunger during a famine. Parts of the blueberry plant were also used as medicine. A tea made from the leaves of the plant was thought to be good for the blood. Blueberry juice was used to treat coughs.

Blueberries can fight heart disease.

Recent research shows the equivalent of ½ cup of blueberries per day can reduce the plaque formation of atherosclerosis more than 50%. This could be life changing for people that have heart or artery disease. Just another great example of the undiscovered value of eating right. Get your fruits and veggies.

Blueberries are an excellent source of vitamin C.

In fact, a serving contains about 14 mg or almost 25% of daily requirement for Vitamin C. Vitamin C is needed for the formation of collagen and to maintain healthy gums and capillaries. It also aids in the absorption of iron and promotes a healthy immune system.

Blueberries are a good source of dietary fiber.

Government surveys tell us that there is not enough fiber in our diet. A diet high in fiber contributes to heart health, helping to keep cholesterol in check. Fiber also aids in digestions and helps maintain regularity.

Blueberries are an excellent source of manganese.

Manganese plays an important role in the development of bones and in the metabolism of protein, carbohydrate and fat.

HOW IS YOUR KID'S BACKPACK?

In my practice, I have noticed a marked increase in the number of young children who are complaining about back, neck and shoulder pain. It is definitely from school backpacks. Kids are carrying more than 20-30% of their body weight at times. It may seem light to a parent, but try to carry 60 pounds on your back all day, sometimes slung on only one shoulder. Decrease backpack weight to 10-15% of bodyweight. Get the CDs of their textbooks. Go to my Notes Tab for more info.

4 Steps to Safe Backpack Use

Below are helpful tips to insure you know how to safely use your backpack in order to promote spinal health.

Step 1: Choose Right. Choosing the right size backpack is the most important step to safe backpack use.

Tip: Bring a friend to help you measure your backpack properly.

Step 2: Pack Right. The maximum weight of the loaded backpack should not exceed 15 % of your body weight, so pack only what is needed.

Tip: If the backpack forces the wearer to move forward to carry, it's overloaded.

Step 3: Lift Right. Face the Pack -Bend at the Knees - Use both hands and check the weight of the pack. - Lift with the legs - Apply one shoulder strap and then the other.

Tip: Don't sling the backpack onto one shoulder.

Step 4: Wear Right. Use both shoulder straps - snug, but not too tight.

Tip: When the backpack has a waist strap - use it.

It's your health. Make time!
