HD Model Material
|
| For over 35 years, Freeman has manufactured the highest quality jewelry injection waxes in the world. Wax, however, has its limitations. This is why we have also been educating the jewelry market on an innovative polymer called HD that replaces wax in the lost wax casting process.
HD is unique in that it remains liquid until cured with special lights, therefore providing a number of unique advantages over wax, including better flow for filling intricately detailed patterns (especially stereolithography patterns), and elimination of the mold expansion that occurs when injecting wax into a rubber mold
HD is unlike anything else Freeman sells and might be worth a look outside the jewelry market for those who are recreating small parts. Check out our videos and let us know if you might have an application for this ground-breaking material.

Tech-Line Q & A | | In every issue, we bring you the answers to real-world technical questions that have broad applications. Our technical support staff is available during normal business hours, Monday through Friday, by calling 800-321-8511 (Option 5)
Which RenShape board would you recommend for thermoforming applications?
There are several different boards you can use. The most popular board is the RenShape 472; and for clear plastic, we recommend the RenShape 5179 or RenShape 5169.
Does the ambient temperature effect the curing of resins? Yes, temperatures greatly affect the curing speed of resins. The warmer the environment, the faster it will cure. Also, resins should be stored at a temperature between 70-80°F.
Is fiberglass flammable? Since they are composed of inorganic materials, glass fabrics are noncombustible, making them a natural choice where flammability is a concern.
Can PVA be used on a wood or plaster mold without sealing the mold first? No, both wood and plaster molds must be sealed prior to application of PVA. Automobile type primer-sealers and lacquers can generally produce the desired surface. Wax should also be applied to wood molds prior to use of water-soluble PVA coatings such as Partall Coverall Film or Partall Film #10 as moisture that resides naturally in wood may compromise the PVA's integrity and produce areas of the mold surface that are not adequately protected.
What adhesive would you recommend for adhering two (2) pieces of semi-rigid polyurethane elastomer? We would suggest using the Maxim Fast Urethane Adhesive & Repair Material.
