Greetings!
Welcome to the July issue of Freeman's E-Newsletter!
We've done a lot of work recently on the appearance of our product pages (primarily updating our images) and we just completed a extensive overhaul of our fiberglass fabric descriptions.
For those of you who missed either of our last two newsletters, we recently released two new videos entitled Casting Molds & Models With Intricate
Detail, and Silicone Rubber Molds with Complex Parting
Lines.
Our next series of videos is still in pre-production. As always, you'll hear about all new video releases through our newsletter first. Stay tuned.

UniDirectional Carbon Tapes & Fiberglass Strand |
|
uni-cloth | Continuing with our reinforcement renovation theme, Freeman is now carrying a full line of carbon fiber unidirectional tapes in 1", 2", 3" 4", and 6" widths. These tapes are made from filaments of carbon that are flat (not twisted, like yarns), and provide the strengths and stiffness of carbon fiber in one direction only, thus enabling the maximum precision in orientation. The fiberglass yarns in the opposite direction are only for holding the carbon in place.
Each full roll is 100 yards, but you can buy them buy the yard. Below you'll find a coupon for 10% off our already aggressive pricing.
We have also added 1/4" and 1/8" fiberglass strand to our miapoxy site. This is a convenient reinforcement for urethane and epoxy laminates, used primarily on tools or molds in irregular areas where fabrics are difficult to fit.

The Return Of Discounted Mixing Kits |
|
Back in the HobbyCast days (a mere seven months ago), we ran a promotion where anyone who bought a silicone rubber or casting resin would get the opportunity to buy a mixing kit at a discount.
It's back...and better.
Now, on our miapoxy website only, put any silicone rubber or casting resin in your shopping cart and you'll see an opportunity in the cart itself to add either the 16 oz or 64 oz mixing kit for 30% off.
BTW - we will soon have two more urethanes available in the smaller, two-pound kits. Check back next month.

Tech-Line Q & A | | In every issue, we bring you the answers to real-world technical questions that have broad applications. Our technical support staff is available during normal business hours, Monday through Friday, by calling 800-321-8511 (Option 5)
How can I minimize air entrapment when pouring a silicone rubber if I do not have a vacuum degassing unit?
Prior to pouring the mold, brush the silicone on the mold surface using a pure bristle disposable brush. After the brushing is complete, permit the material to remain in this thin layer for 5 minutes. This process forces the silicone into the fine detail, and permits small bubbles to surface and break. After that time, pour the balance of the material into the cavity to fill the mold.
We are looking for a tooling system that we can CNC mill directly for female tooling for use with pre-preg carbon fiber, using a "low" temperature (100ºC) resin cure. Your RenShape 5008 looks good. Does it require a surface coat?
Do you have a quick setting material that we
could pour
to create a mold that could withstand temperatures of up to 320ºF? It should be able to form a hard, rigid, one-piece mold. We would suggest taking a look at the Huntsman
EP-310 (formerly known as Ren Cast-It 2000). However, it is extremely
important to follow the technical data sheet when using this product.
Can you glue RenShape boards adjacently to form
longer/wider dimensions or can you just glue in a stacked (thicker)
configuration?
You can make longer boards by gluing smaller boards together, but you would need at least two layers and you would have to stagger the joints. RenShape boards would
not hold up well if glued at the ends only.
See our RenShape Matched Adhesives Table to find the right adhesive for each board.
We are having problems keeping our spray nozzles clean
and working on cans of RenLease 78-2 and 78-1 Aerosol Silicone Release
Agent. Once we are done spraying we put the caps back on. Is there a
trick?
You may want to try turning the can
upside down and spraying for a couple of second. This will help get the
excess material out of the tip.
