closeout 1Expanded Methacrylate Adhesive Offerings

You now have more choices than ever when selecting a methacrylate adhesive. We have added several formulations from Adhesive Systems , Inc (ASI) to our existing Araldite and Devcon offerings. Now it is even easier to dial in a specific work time, fixture time, viscosity or lap shear strength to more closely match your job requirements.

Methacrylate adhesives exhibit very high bond strength and are particularly well suited for adhering most thermoplastics and metals with a bond that is resistant to water and many solvents. These two-component systems perform across a wide temperature range and hold fast even under severe environmental conditions. Methacyrlates are truly a high-performance bonding solution.

Tech-Line Q & A / Announcements
Tech Library In every issue, we bring you the answers to real-world technical questions that have broad applications. Our technical support staff is available during normal business hours, Monday through Friday, by calling 800-321-8511 (Option 5)

What is a good pourable material to make molds for stamping concrete or pouring concrete into?

Flexible urethanes like the Freeman 1035Freeman 1040, and Freeman 1050 are most popular for this application. They are low in cost, flexible for easy demold, and have good mold life. Plus, many find these urethanes to have abrasion resistances superior to silicones in most concrete applications.

What is a good glue for Medium Density Fiberboard MDF?

The most common and inexpensive adhesive to use is Freeman White Wood Glue or Freeman Gold Wood Glue. Epoxies will also work, like RenLam 1700-1 or RenLam 4005 (if heat from applications such as vacuum forming is involved).

What causes soft spots on the backside of my mold/ casting?

Generally, this is caused by not thoroughly mixing the resin and hardener.
  1. Using a paint paddle or tongue depressor, mix resin and hardener individually.
  2. Using an accurate scale and clean disposable containers, mix resin and hardener at proper mix ratio by weight.
  3. Thoroughly mix resin and hardener, being careful to scrape the sides and bottom of the container to ensure no unmixed material remains.
  4. Transfer into another cup and thoroughly mix again
For a complete demonstration of the proper weighing and mixing procedures, please view our video on this topic.

Can I tap my urethane or epoxy casting?

We would not suggest tapping the urethane or epoxy castings.  The threads would tend to be too brittle and may fracture easily.  We would suggest to cast threaded inserts into your casting.

Can the RenShape Tooling Boards be tapped?

We would not suggest tapping the Ren Shape Tooling Boards.  We suggest installing helicoil threaded inserts.
