 Katy's Ponderings...
Jesus...a not-white baby
On my way to church yesterday I noticed the plastic lawn sculpture. The nativity: Mary, Joseph, the baby. It was a large set and lighted. I slowed down to admire the scene, a heart-warming kitschy display, and then I saw him: Balthazar, the black Wiseman. Only when I saw Balthazar standing resolutely at the margins did I notice the ethnicity of the others. Euro. Every one of the plastic figures appeared of northern European descent, except Balthazar (African) and Caspar (Asian).
