Uncle Joe's Scuba

Greetings!

Everyone wants to get the most for their money.  Scuba diving equipment definitely falls into that category.  One way to do this is to prolong the life of the equipment you have!

Many divers simply overlook how important it is to properly clean and store their equipment after each dive.  The most important thing to do is follow your equipment manufacturers recommendations.  McNett has put together a pamphlet the "McNett Repair & Care Guide"   which is available for FREE in our store.  McNett also has a great wealth of information available on their website at:

 http://www.mcnett-dive.com/Repair-Guide/140.aspx

Yes I know it is still cold outside, but it is time to start thinking about getting that gear out and checking it over.  Do you need to have your regs serviced?  Is there anything that needs repaired or replaced before that next trip?  Take advantage now to get your equipment serviced before the your next dive!

REGULATORS:

After each use, dry the dust cap off and secure it in place.  Soak and rinse your regulators in clean fresh water to remove any salt crystals and other particulate.  DO NOT press any purge buttons unless the regulator is connected to a tank and is under pressure.

BCD:

Wash both the inside and outside of your BCD.  Most divers rinse the outside of their BCD but do not think about rinsing inside the Ocean Probladder.  Rinsing the bladder is very simple.  Just add a small amount of cleaner like BC Lifefrom McNett and some water into the oral inflator mouthpiece, shake and turn the BCD to thoroughly clean the entire inside.  Turn the BCD upside down and drain.  Next soak the outside of your BCD in a bucket of BC Life& water for about 10 minutes, rinse and hang to dry.  Remember to leave the BCD partially inflated.

WET SUITS:

Wash your wet suit, booties, and gloves by soaking them in a wet suit shampoo and warm water.  McNett also recommends adding a small amount of Silicone Pump to the mixture to aid in the conditioning of the suit.  To remove odors, soak the suit again in a mixture of water and MiraZyme deodorizerMiraZymeis a enzyme based cleaner which actually feeds on the odor causing bacteria!  DO NOT rinse the suit after using MiraZyme, just hang the suit and let MiraZyme do its work as your suit dries!

MASK, FINS & SNORKEL:

Rinse your mask, fins & snorkel with fresh water after every dive.  DO NOT store your fins on their tips, as this will cause them to become distorted.  Store your DRY mask in its box to protect it from distortion and color bleed.

KNIVES & CUTTING DEVICES:

Rinse, dry and apply a light coat of Silicone to prevent rusting.  DO NOT use knife or gun oils as this may have an adverse affect on the neoprene in your other dive equipment.

 DC1000 MAXX Set

LIGHTS, CAMERAS & OTHER ELECTRONICS:

Soak (SEALED) units in fresh water.  Operate all moving parts to loosen any salt and other deposits that may have accumulated.  Allow the equipment to dry completely then remove all batteries and storage disks.  IMPORTANT:  Follow manufacturer's instructions on lubricating and storing.

ADDITIONAL NOTES:

*  Don't forget to clean and lubricate all zippers as well.

*  Always hang your equipment in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.

*  Always have your equipment serviced as per the manufacturer's guidelines and recommendations!
