We hope you had a wonderful holiday season with friends and family.  With 2010 behind us and a few more months of winter ahead, Uncle Joe and Steel City Divers (our Dive Club) want to give you some things to look forward to.

Bonne Terre Mine: Diving beneath the Earth.

There are still a few spaces left on our trip to Bonne Terre, MO.  Don't miss your chance to join Jeff and fellow PA divers into the depths of the historic St. Joseph's Lead Mine.

Abandoned in the 1960's, the mine was allowed to flood with many of the tools, heavy equipment, and more simply shut off and deserted.  Now a pristine underwater time capsule, Bonne Terre offers visitors a glimpse of the industrial era.

Combine this with constant 58 degree water and 100+ foot visibility and you have what Jacques Cousteau called a must dive.

Annual Dive Club Banquet: January 30th

YOU DO NOT HAVE TO BE A MEMBER TO COME!

Steel City Divers will be holding their annual banquet at the end of the month.  We have reserved the Back room at Monte Cello's restaurant in Wexford.   Dinner will begin around 4:30pm so we can enjoy an early meal and still be home in time for the 2011 Pro Bowl.  Like last year, there won't be any up-front costs as meals will be billed on separate checks.

-If you or anyone you know can donate prizes for our door prize raffle, please let us know as soon as possible.

-Feel free to invite family and friends.

Please Remember: You can pay your 2011 dues at the dinner.  Once you have paid your dues you will get your membership card and be able to take advantage of the discounts at Hoss's and Uncle Joe's Scuba.  We will try to have t-shirts ready by the February meeting for anyone that pays at the party.

Once again, we are looking for volunteers to help run the dive club.  There are five officer positions available.  Listed below are the duties of each.


OfficersFROM SCD By-Laws:

1.       The officer positions shall consist of the following:

A.President - Presides over meetings, in charge of all official business.

B.Vice President - Assists the president and presides in the absence of the president.

C.Secretary - Maintains minutes from meetings, is in charge membership including new members applications, terminated members, members who want to be reinstated, etc.

D.Treasurer - In charge of all of the financial responsibilities including annual dues, trips, philanthropic donations, club insignia, etc.

E.Activities Coordinator - Plans and is in charge of all the events outside of regular monthly meetings

Bottom Line: Positions require minimal commitment - Attend several meetings and communicate with each other and Uncle Joe's Scuba.  It has always been the vision of Uncle Joe that this is your dive club.  While you have our full support, we know that an independent organization better represents the wants of its members.  Positions are voted upon yearly, so give it a try.
