Business Improvement Workshop
Do You Know Your Financing Options? |
In these tough times, who else can we turn to when traditional financing isn't financing?
To learn more about alternative methods of financing, attend the "Do You Know Your Financing Options" session on June 19, 2009.
Have you ever asked yourself any of these questions?
* If my credit is good, why can't I obtain a loan?
* Why does the SBA loan process take so long and can it be shortened?
* If I go to outside investors, how much of my company do I have to give up?
* What is the difference between full factoring and invoice discounting?
The workshop features 4 very knowledgeable speakers who will answer these and other questions when presenting the key elements of their alternatives. This is the foundation for the second half of the workshop - a very interactive question/answer discussion between the panel of speakers and attendees.
What a great opportunity to learn . . .
and get all of your financing questions answered
at the same time!
Seating is limited. Cost is $35 for TAB members; $50 for Non-members/Guests.
When registering, attendees will be asked to submit questions for the speakers during the panel discussion.
Friday, June 19, 2009; RSVP by June 16, 2009 Registration 8:15 AM to 8:30 AM
Workshop 8:30 AM to 12:30 PM

OneSource Virtual HR Tip Determine if Job-Sharing Can Work
|
 |
Dear Workplace Doctor,
Recently a valued employee proposed sharing her job instead of quitting to spend more time with her preschool children. She even offered a proposed schedule, divided responsibilities and reduced benefits. Job-sharing sounds like a good concept but can it really work?
-------------------------------
1. Are both employees individually qualified?
2. Is the division of responsibilities optimal? 3. What happens when one is sick or absent? 4. Does the proposed schedule allow for a smooth transition between their shifts? 5. How will they communicate with each other and with employees and clients? Employees and clients need to assume telling either one is sufficient. 6. Will both be available for meetings and training? 7. Will current space, facilities and equipment suffice or does each need separate accommodations for privacy or overlap?
As these questions infer, flexibility, clear expectations and commitment determine job-sharing's success. It's worth a try, considering the value of retaining qualified, valued employees.

Issue Press Releases in a Down Economy
|
Even with a declining economy, it is important to keep your company name and brand in front of customers and prospects. This can be done with next to no advertising dollars, if you invest in public relations. Make sure any company news, especially upbeat features, is sent in press releases to local, regional or national publications. Editors are always looking for content-especially if you include graphics or photographs. Contact your local radio and television media with interesting ideas-such as what you are doing during the downturn to maintain or increase your market share, what you are doing to expand or maintain employment levels or how you are contributing to your community. Then, any published material, news spots or radio programs can be forwarded to your customers, added to your Web site or sent to new prospects.

Return on Life |
|
Three words to study - Return on Life. These words explain one's focus; more than just "return on investment." There is no set answer to define "return on life." Simply said, its meaning is individually defined - what makes life enjoyable for you.
What's meaningful in life makes many decisions; decisions that are different than what might be most financially attractive.......some of fleeting value, some of substance.
Watching the facial expressions of my brother and his wife as their oldest son gets married is one of those moments when "return on life" is evident.
Family, faith, education and quality times can be filled with experiences to remind us why we do what we do and help us focus on a future brighter than today; not simply dominated by immediate pressures.
Have a great summer!

| Manage Distractions |
When focus is critical, such as detailed numerical analysis or accuracy of data entry, interruptions break your concentration and cause you to lose momentum. Maintaining productivity in our office was a huge challenge, so to solve the problem we implemented "roundups"-short 15-minute meetings held twice per day allowing employees to share saved up issues or requests. The time in between these meetings is the "quiet zone" where, short of an emergency, much more work gets done. This has greatly improved the dynamics.

| Verify Social Security Numbers |
Employers can now verify employee Social Security numbers (SSNs) over the telephone 24 / 7 by using the Social Security Administration's automated Telephone Number Employer Verification (TNEV) service or the online Social Security Number Verification Service (SSNVS). |
| Explore a New Marketing Frontier |
Social media marketing is no longer for kids. Combat the recession and return to the basics of marketing through relationship building. People do business with who they know and trust. Social media marketing is free, easy and effective. Recommended sites include Facebook and LinkedIn. Terry Low, Byte Technology, Appleton, WI

| Federal Minimum Wage Increase |
The federal minimum wage provisions are contained in the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA). The current federal minimum wage of $6.55 per hour (effective July 24, 2008) will increase to $7.25 per hour (effective July 24, 2009). |
| Scheduling Strategy Planning Sessions |
Schedule your corporate strategy planning sessions during your slower business periods. There are peak times for some businesses when it may be necessary for a business owner to work IN his or her business. Review your sales trends and block off strategic planning time during the sales "valleys". One obvious strategy may be to look at developing business opportunities during these "valleys" to even out cash flow.
