Blog Notes-

Arts and crafts festivals are one way to market your art or fine art craft. For some artists this is a way of life. For others it is a good way to supplement their art income by doing a few shows each year. It can be a grueling and exhausting, yet for some artists it is very profitable.  If you think your work would sell well in the festival setting, try out a few local venues.

Artist of the Month:

Karen Tetrault

I am an artist educator and Western Massachusetts native.  While growing up I found myself drawing a great deal, and I was encouraged by my parents.  I enjoyed school, and art was my favorite class.  I have been a public school art teacher for 20 years now. I hold degrees from Westfield State University and University of Massachusetts and I am a member of the Pioneer Valley Photographic Artists.

Karen's photo

I find that photography allows me to collect the essence of something that mattered to me as I stood in a place. My recent work is a group of images captured on public lands.  From town properties to National Parks, these places are reserved for human recreation, protection of natural habitat, and preservation of cultural and historic sites.  My photographs are vignettes of my experiences there.

Myself and two friends are exhibiting our work at the Northampton Center for the Arts during the month of January.  We call our exhibit "Trine".  TRINE is a group comprised of three parts, indicating harmony, momentum, and ease of expression. We are a group of three artist educators who have been working together for over a decade. Each of us has our own particular vehicle for expression. What binds us is our friendship and working relationship over the years, coupled with the support we give to each other as artists. The title of our exhibit reflects this relationship.

New Service at GoNE, Inc.

We have a new service here, at Giclee of New England, Inc. We are offering websites for artists. We believe that without an online presence, it is difficult for an artist to reach his or her full market. For one low price GoNE, Inc. will build a site that is completely accessible to the owner. (price includes training on how to use the site, upload images and content). For an additional fee we will create a Fan Page for Facebook connected to your site.
Art Trends

Earlier this month Smith College invited teachers for K-12 to their campus to visit the Botanical Gardens and the Mead Art Museum. They had workshops to help the teachers make connection between art and nature. Smith College hoped that they would bring what they learned back to the classrooms to make future field trips to Smith more informative.
