Please Join Friends of Giclée of New England, Inc. at a Reception for Our New Show featuring Artist, Gail Bruce, Reception: August 8th 4pm -7pm.
Show dates: July 11 - September 5, 2009.

Giclée of New England, Inc. invites you to join us for an evening of Art and Music on August 8th.  Artist's Reception begins at 4pm. and will include music beginning at 6:pm, featuring local singer/song writer, Rich "Oaky" O'Connor.

Gail Bruce, a New York City artist who, with her husband Murray, has made her second home in West Brookfield, is a well-known artist and Native American activist. We have been delighted to get to know Gail and Murray, and we think you will love meeting her and seeing her work. Gail will be showing new paintings and serigraphs as well as favorite originals and giclée prints. Her clean lines and stylized figures along with bold colors and form make her work outstanding and accessible. Gail's newest work, Grandfather is being featured on the September cover of Delicious Living Magazine.

Oaky O'Connor is known locally for his mellow voice and accomplished guitar playing. Last year's 2nd place winner at the Monson Talent show, his original work is lively, full of rhythm and great lyrics.

We hope to see  you at our Gallery on August 8th, so mark your calendar!

Photoshop Tips:

For Beginners:
This is exclusively for Elements Users. Because you can not put a mask on layers like you can in full Photoshop you have less control over your editing. There is a work-around to get a mask. Click on the layer you want to mask (or make a composite layer Shift/ctrl/alt with one hand then click letter "e".) When layer is active go to edit>Define pattern.  When dialog box opens click ok. Now go to layers pallet. Click on adjustment layers (icon at top of pallet) and choose pattern. Your layer will show up now with a mask attached. You can delete the original layer or close the eye on it. Paint with black on the mask to hide parts of the layer. Paint with white to reveal the layer.

Advanced Photoshop User tip: If you repeat some steps frequently, (standard resize for example of add a stroke). you can save time by using actions. If the actions window is not open go to windows>and check off actions. When actions opens, click on new set icon on bottom of pallet, (looks like a file folder) give it a name. then click on new action (looks like a folded piece of paper) and name it. Then click Record. red button on the action pallet is highlighted. All steps from there on will be recorded until you click stop (the blue square next to the red button).
Next time you need to do that procedure, open the action pallet, choose the set you named, click on the action, then click on the go button > next to red record button and sit back and let Photoshop do the work.

Gary Lippincott

Having always been fascinated with the magical worlds of fantasy and imagination, Gary can't remember a time when he wasn't attempting to bring some of his dreams back to so-called reality. At a young age, he started 'conjuring up' images of fairies, gnomes, wizards, dragons, giants monsters and all the wonderful places they inhabit. Through his creative talents, Gary has attempted to capture the viewer of his art with the notion that the worlds of imagination and reality are not that far apart. Very recognizable landscapes become populated with wee folk . . . a 'real' stone castle houses dragons and sorcerers . . . and beneath the leaves and vines of the underbrush live creatures that are rarely encountered.
Shortly after receiving his BFA degree from the Maryland Institute College of Art, Gary began a career as a freelance illustrator. Although he had painted primarily in oils during his years in art school, Gary began teaching himself how to control the more difficult medium of watercolors. He wanted to stay away from the more 'slick' techniques being used so much in science-fiction and fantasy art to date. Gary developed a feel of 'old-world craftsmanship' in his art that separates it from most of the rest. He hopes to evoke a feeling in his art that lends itself to the whimsical fairy-tale-like themes he loves to paint.
Although he specializes in fantasy art, Gary has done a lot of illustration along other themes. His artwork appears in children's books, text books, book jackets, and even jigsaw puzzles. He has received numerous awards for his artwork at science-fiction and fantasy conventions. His work is now being bought by collectors worldwide. Ed McMahon (of the Tonight Show) is even an owner of a Lippincott original.
A member of the Western Massachusetts Illustrators Guild, Gary has taught Fantasy Art and Imaginative Drawing at the Worcester Art Museum. He has exhibited at Arts Worcester, University of Massachusetts Medical, Bush Galleries, Cambridge Gallery, Southbridge Center for the Arts, Spencer Arts Center, Northampton Center for the Arts, and the Words and Pictures Museum. Books he has illustrated include The Bookstore Mouse, Jennifer Murdley's Toad, With Love at Christmas, On the Frontier with Mr. Audubon, Ancient Egypt, The Skull of Truth, The Vampire's Beautiful Daughter, The Fisherman and His Wife, Jeremy Thatcher, Dragon Hatcher, and more.

Check out some of Gary's work at www.garylippincott.com

Gary will be the featured artist at the GoNE, Inc. Gallery in November-December.

If you are thinking about starting your own web site, but are stymied by cost, difficulty and lack of training there is a low cost and easy to build alternative. WWW.squarespace.com has fully editable templates, is easy to use and only costs $8 a month and that includes the hosting of your site. It really is the best deal around.
