Technology Outsourcing: Allowing Small Companies to Play with the Big Boys |
By: Mark DeKeersgieter
Vice President Sales and Marketing
Keeping your business up-to-date with the latest technology is a constant challenge with an ever-increasing price tag. Today's technology companies understand this challenge. While business owners may be cautiously optimistic about the slow resurgence of the economy, they continue to remain conservative in their spending. And, with the lean budgets most businesses are adhering to, it's common to discover they have postponed, not anticipated, nor budgeted for technology needs, whether replacements or enhancements. In an effort to find a good solution to this issue, business owners and technology companies worked together and enhanced the managed service platform to include all the hardware as part of the monthly service agreement. This option saves companies from having to hire their own technology staff as well as incur the upfront capital expense and maintain the equipment and software.

Something to Blog About | |
By: Patti Orzel
Vice President &
Game Master
In May, Harlan Geiser, owner and CEO of Integrity Technology Solutions, had the opportunity to speak at the Annual Gathering of Games, a conference for the Open-Book community. During Harlan's presentation he shared Integrity's story of implementing Open Book Management (OBM) in 1999 and again in 2009.
We now refer to our implementation in 1999 as our false start. We knew the basic philosophies of OBM but didn't fully embrace all of the aspects. In 2009, we had a plan, a coach and a great desire to do it right.
Jack Stack, co-author of "The Great Game of Business" and chief executive of SRC Holdings in Springfield, MO, has a blog on the New York Times about Open Book Management and the many companies that are practicing. In his June 7th entry, he shares the story of Integrity Technology Solution's false start and our success since correctly implementing OBM in 2009.

Green Certification |
By: Mary Bennett Henrichs
President
Integrity is excited to be one of four businesses in Bloomington-Normal participating in a pilot program to achieve the Illinois Green Business Association's Green Business Certification. Over the next 90 days, we will be completing certification requirements to demonstrate that our business practices and operations meet IGBA standards. This includes practices in purchasing, waste reduction, water and energy conservation, landscape, pollution prevention and transportation.
So what is a Green Business and why is certification important to Integrity?
Simply put, a Green Business is an environmental leader within the community that encourages environmentally efficient operations and sustainability within the workplace.
It was easy for us to make the decision to pursue the Green Business Certification. First, it is the right thing to do. Reducing our ecological footprint and being responsible consumers in our community is important to us. In addition, as many of you know, we practice open book management at Integrity. This heightens each employee's awareness of our expenses and bottom line and encourages everyone to focus on operating our business in the most efficient manner possible. Discovering ways to reduce our energy consumption, examine our operations and implement cost savings solutions is a logical extension of this practice of open book management. Finally, and most importantly, achieving our Green Business certification will have a direct, positive impact you, our clients. You count on us, your business partner and trusted advisors, to help you implement technologies that enable you achieve your business objectives. This may include energy savings and sustainable IT practices. In a recent Accenture survey of 766 CEOs, 90% said that their companies will adopt new technologies in the next five years to enable green practices. Ninety percent also stated that sustainable IT is important to the future success of their company. Whether you desire virtual collaboration, lowering energy costs by reducing IT energy consumption, or identifying how to dispose or reuse equipment at the end of its lifecycle, our technology advisors are ready to assist you.
We'll share more about this initiative in the coming months. If you'd like to learn more about the Green Business Certification, I'd be glad to talk with you about it or you can visit the Illinois Green Business Association's website. |

Is Your Tech Impeding Your Biz Growth? |

Microsoft Small Business Center
from Entrepreneur.comBy: Peter Alexander
Every structure--whether it's a home, an office building or a bridge--needs a foundation. Without one, the structure simply can't endure or be expanded upon. The same is true in business today: Every company that relies on information access and instant communications--which means just about every small business--needs a solid network infrastructure as a foundation.
Unfortunately, many small businesses don't have a secure, consistent network foundation. In order to grow quickly, many small companies have accumulated a hodgepodge of network connection solutions, including DSL and dial-up. Their network cabling, hardware and devices (such as routers, firewalls and switches) often come from multiple vendors.
But multiple vendors and an inconsistent array of network technologies can leave your business vulnerable to security threats.
Your business can't easily make its data resources securely and widely available to users. Time, money and resources are wasted. The business isn't as nimble as it could be. Workers aren't as productive; customers aren't as satisfied.
A solid network foundation that ties all your technologies together cost-effectively supports your company's business processes, increases operational efficiencies, lowers costs, increases security and makes it possible to easily add more advanced technology as needs arise. In this month's column, I'll explain what a network foundation is, how it benefits your small business, and how you can have one.
