In week one of the Boys & Girls Clubs NFL Flag Football League, the 10-12-year-old WyCo Panthers downed the Leslie Lions in a hard-fought matchup with the score a tight 14-6. The defending champions in both age divisions, the Thornberry Bulldogs, took home their first win of 2009 via forfeit, but saw game time anyway against WyCo. The 7-9-year-old division opens its season on October 13, so stay tuned for more football updates! Good luck to all teams!

The Visual Arts Club members attended their second year field trip to Powell Botanical Gardens to capture nature at its best through the camera lens. Members worked with materials of pastels, watercolors, acrylic, and charcoal to create artwork in the garden for the upcoming 2010 NFA and Imagemakers Exhibit.
On September 28, General Mills continued its partnership with the East Side Unit in a multi-focused cookie baking event. Club members and staff met General Mills volunteers at the local GM facility to make chocolate chip cookies. The event was designed to teach the youth how to bake cookies from scratch, and to provide snacks for guests to the J.D. Wagner Boys & Girls Club Open House the next day. Experiencing the baking process, working together as a team, and seeing the results of their work was great reinforcement for the youth, and having some extra cookies to take home didn't hurt either! Thanks to General Mills for providing these fun learning experiences for our kids!
100 Club members participated in Worldwide Day of Play on September 26 in partnership with National Hunting & Fishing Day. Members fished and learned about hunting elk and wild turkey, 4-H, gun safety and the sport of hunting. Through a partnership with the Missouri National Conservation Department, our Keystone Clubs were able to sell concessions to all participants as a fundraiser.
