In an effort to keep you more informed on what's happening at the Clubs, we will send out out this weekly e-newsletter with the latest and greatest Club events and activities! |
| What's Been Going On? |

Thanks to our friends at 610 Sports Radio, the Clubs sent nearly 300 Club youth to the Southeast Community Center to hear Chiefs first round draft pick Tyson Jackson speak on July 7. Jackson shared how he came from a single parent home to become the success he is today. Thanks to 610 Sports for providing this great opportunity for our youth.
Hemline, a cutting-edge fashion store located on the Country Club Plaza, hosted an exclusive summer fashion show (SWELL) to benefit the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Kansas City on Friday, July 10. SWELL took place at the new JONES Pool in the Power & Light District. It was a great night of fashion under the stars!
On July 11, our Club weighlifting team traveled to Onaka, KS to compete in the ONAGA BLAST CHANCE 2009. Nine members from the WyCo Unit and five from the Thornberry Unit participated and represented the Clubs very well! We had NINE 1st Place finishers in their respective divisions: Vivian Young, LaSheyia Boyd, Meleisha Williams, Dalmetriana Avery, Teila Broxton, Raven House, Kiara Cooper, Marquan Goldsby and Freddie Brim. In addition, the Clubs had three 2nd Place finishers, one 3rd Place and one 4th Place. Congratulations to all of these youth for such a great accomplishment!
Once again this year, TeamSmile provided free dental screening and treatment to several hundred Club youth on Friday, July 17. This year, Club kids were bussed to the Stadium where they spent the morning not only receiving free dental care, but playing in the brand new Outfield Experience at the K. At the end of the day, everyone came back together at the Stadium to watch the Royals Hall of Fame Classic, followed by the Royals game AND the grand opening of the Royals Hall of Fame! What a fabulous day! Thank you to TeamSmile and the Kansas City Royals for making this day possible for our kids!
The East Side Unit recently participated in a fire safety presentation where they learned how to have a safe summer and what to do in an emergency. Fire and safety specialist Kevin Beck spoke to the youth about what to do when there is a fire, how to become a fireman and encouraged them to stay in school. Don't forget to use GoodSearch.com for your online searches and GoodShop.com for your online shopping to benefit the Clubs.
