In an effort to keep you more informed on what's happening at the Clubs, we will send out out this weekly e-newsletter with the latest and greatest Club events and activities! |
| What's Been Going On? |

Members at the Leslie Unit have been learning about worms including watching how they move, creating a worm habitat and making a "wormy dessert" with oreo cookies, chocolate pudding and sour worms! (See pic at left.) Members have also been having balloon races in the gym to see how fast they can make their balloons travel across the gym on a piece of string. Much fun at the Leslie Unit this summer!
RBI supporter and Royals announcer Ryan Lefebvre held his annual Gloves for Kids promotion at Dick's Sporting Goods in Leawood on June 15. Youth from our Frank White Division attended to support the event, as some of the proceeds benefit RBI. Eight Royals players signed autographs and over $6,000 was raised! Click here to see some pictures from the event. Many thanks to Ryan and his Footprints Foundation for the continued support of RBI!
On June 17, over 1,100 RBI youth, coaches and managers joined some of our team sponsors for our annual RBI Night at the K celebration. Several youth and sponsors participated in a special on-field ceremony during the pregame festivities, and one youth even got to throw out the ceremonial first pitch. It was a hot, but fun evening for all!
Kansas City Chiefs DT Glenn Dorsey made a special appearance at the Thornberry Unit on June 18 to announce a donation of $5,000 worth of sports equipment and gear via his new Dream Big Foundation. Following the announcement, Dorsey participated in a Q&A session with Club youth and then helped the members try out some of the new equipment.
The Wyandotte County Unit Keystone Club has been selected by Boys & Girls Clubs of America (BGCA) to receive a Taco Bell Foundation for Teens Scholarship to attend the 2009 Regional Keystone Conference as the winner of the Academic Success Event Contest. Congratulations to our Wyandotte County teen leaders!
On June 19, associates at the 39th Street Wal-Mart in Independence presented the Independence Clubs with a check for $1,500. The Clubs were selected to receive a grant from their store by the associates. Thank you to Tammy Brady and the rest of the Wal-Mart crew for their continued generosity!

Taco Bell Taco Truck Visit - July 6
The Taco Bell Taco Truck will make a stop in Kansas City on July 6 at the Thornberry Unit. The Truck is traveling from Los Angeles to St. Louis for the MLB All-Star Game, stopping along the way at various Boys & Girls Clubs. The Truck will provide tacos and burritos to our Club youth in celebration of summer and the Keystone Club Teen Leadership program. Thank you Taco Bell for your outstanding support of the Clubs!
Tyson Jackson Visit - July 7
Thanks to our friends at 610 Sports Radio, the Clubs will bring approximately 300 Club youth to the Southeast Community Center to hear Chiefs first round draft pick Tyson Jackson speak on July 7. Jackson will share about how he came from a single parent home to become the success he is today. Thanks to 610 Sports for providing this great opportunity for our youth.
