On April 8, volunteers from General Mills brought an Easter Celebration to the youth at the East Side Unit! The volunteers made Easter baskets for the kids, put jelly beans in 100+ plastic eggs for an Easter egg hunt, and then dyed 150+ hard-boiled eggs with the youth (picture at left). The kids had a blast and "The Call" newspaper was even on hand to snap photos. Thanks to our wonderful friends at General Mills for bringing some holiday festivities to the Club!
Ten teen members from the Keystone Leadership club attended the Keystone Conference in Atlanta, Georgia from April 1-5. As part of their trip, the members made college visits to Spelman, Moorehouse, Clark Atlanta, Georgia State, the Culinary Institute, and Emory University. The youth also joined other teens from across the country to participate in service projects at local hospitals, zoos, parks and community centers. The week was full of great memories for our teens!
As the RBI program gears up for another exciting season, they would like to recognize and thank four long-standing program partners who help bring the program to life in various ways each season:
- Kansas City Royals
- KCMO Parks & Recreation
- Negro Leagues Baseball Museum
- Hot 103 JAMZ!
We thank them for their commitment to RBI!
The Torch Club junior leadership club Fried Chicken Dinner at the Hawthorne Unit on April 10 was a great success! For only $5.50, guests enjoyed two pieces of chicken, green beans, mashed potatoes, drinks and even a slice of cake for dessert! Funds raised from this event support the Torch Club leadership program.
The Clubs are helping to provide free vision care to some of our members through the Sight For Students Program. VSP, a national healthcare leader in the area of eyecare services, founded the program several years ago and pledged to provide eye exams and eyeglasses to low-income children throughout the nation. This is a year-round rolling enrollment program that will service up to 10,000 Boys & Girls Clubs youth nation-wide. The Clubs look forward to helping as many of our members as possible to benefit from this great program! Check it out at www.sightforstudents.org.
Don't forget to use GoodSearch.com for your online searches and GoodShop.com for your online shopping to benefit the Clubs. Just enter "Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Kansas City" as the charity you want to support! |
