Back-to-School Screening Program a Success

Vision Screening

Throughout the summer, the Missouri Lions Eye Research Foundation provided free Children's Vision Screenings to preschoolers across Missouri. Our largest event at the Saint Louis Science Center was once again a success thanks to the support of our volunteers and the work of our vision screening staff. In only three days, 668 individuals were screened for the leading causes of blindness.

Thank You to Our Outstanding Contributors!

Each year, the Foundation honors the top five Lions clubs who have gone above and beyond in their giving to the organization. We're pleased to recognize the fellow clubs as Outstanding Contributors:

  • Concord Village Lions
  • Jefferson City Host Lions
  • Wardsville Lions
  • Paris Lions
  • St. Joseph Host Lions

We also want to recognize our Sight Saver clubs - those who have given $2,000 or more this past fiscal year.

Thank you again to these clubs and to all donors who continue to give so generously to our programs. To learn how you can contribute, please visit our Giving page.

Doniphan Lion and MLERF Work Side by Side to Save Children's VisionDoniphan Lions

Screening children early in life is crucial to saving their vision as they grow older. It's a belief the Foundation and the Missouri Lions both hold close to our hearts. This summer, the Foundation found a close ally in blindness prevention in Lion Dr. James Hunt of the Doniphan Lions charter club.

Cornea Transplant Saves Sight of Kenyan Girl

Heartland Lions Eye Banks recently received this touching note from a 7-year-old girl in Kenya who underwent a cornea transplant:

"My family and I are very grateful. Before the surgery I had no life. I was house-bound, couldn't socialize, go out, or enjoy doing my hobbies or even do my housework. I felt useless and couldn't make plans for my future. Having the surgery has given me a new lease on life."
