Donor Services Center Completes Renovation

DSCEach day, the Eye Bank's Donor Services Center (DSC) helps facilitate the eye donation process by speaking with medical facilities and approaching donor families for consent. Our rapidly growing team needed a larger facility, and thanks to the generosity of 25 Missouri Lions clubs, we opened our new 1,200 square foot DSC in July 2010.

It's Children's Eye Health & Safety Month!

Children's Eye Health & Safety MonthAccording to Prevent Blindness America, 90% of eye injuries and 50% cases of blindness in children are preventable.

In recognition of the back-to-school season and Children's Eye Health & Safety Month this August, the Foundation shares details on our Children's Vision Screening program and tips for keeping our kids' eyesight safe all year long.

Recipient Family Shares Its Gratitude With the Eye Bank

Dear Lions Members,

We are deeply grateful to you for having a cornea for our loved one when he needed one badly, as he had lost the vision in his left eye. Now he can see again, and it's wonderful!

Dr. Kansal from Salina checked him recently and says it looks good. He will check him again in Sept. Even though he can see again, the doctor said his vision will improve more with time.

We think you have a wonderful organization and hope we can help you some more. We thank you so much for all you've done already.

On July 21st, Illinois Secretary of State Jesse White honored our partner Sarah Bush Lincoln Health System for its dedication to donation. HLEB was thrilled we could be part of this special event. In 2010 alone, SBLHC staff helped give the gift of sight to 30 people.

HLEB and the Lions Eye Bank of Oregon received a $1,500 networking grant from the Eye Bank Association of America to help us strengthen both eye banks' procedures.

Check out the exciting changes coming in 2010/2011 for our Children's Vision Screening program and learn how you can get involved.
